Clifford McConville Obituary

Published by Contra Costa Times from Jun. 16 to Jun. 17, 2007.
Clifford Sherman McConville Jr. Former Resident of Danville Clifford Sherman McConville, Jr. ("Skip"), 69, passed away on June 11th, at his home in Fallbrook, California, from complications of a long and courageous battle with rheumatoid arthritis. Skip was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on July 4th, 1937 to Cliff and Ida (née Sage) McConville. He grew up in the small farm town of Firth, Idaho, and with his strong mechanical aptitude went on to earn a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Idaho, where he was President of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Upon graduation he joined General Electric's electronics division, and at one time worked on a project with NASA. During his early career with GE, he lived and worked in Virginia, New York, Massachusetts, Arizona, and Illinois. In addition to his work responsibilities, he taught advanced math classes at night and was months away from receiving his Ph.D. in mathematics when he left GE to start Computer Consultants, Inc. in Chicago. After selling CCI, Skip joined Cummins-Chicago Corporation as Vice President of the Data Systems Division in 1970. He transferred to California to run Cummins-Chicago's San Francisco branch office in 1974, and then started American Financial Systems in partnership with his wife in 1987. When he retired due to disabilities, he managed his rental properties until he suffered a stroke in 1993. After the stroke, he continued to oversee a wide portfolio of family investments. Skip is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Deanna; children, Dr. Shari Kushwaha (Alok), Cliff (Konda Dees), Sue Cameron (Ron), Christy, and Brian; and grandchildren, Erin Mason, Adam Mason, Kaylee McConville, Anya Kushwaha, and Kara Kushwaha. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Scofield (Jody); and brother, Leon (Charlotte); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 18th, beginning at 12 noon at Berry-Bell and Hall Mortuary, 333 North Vine Street in Fallbrook, CA. A reception for friends and family will be held afterward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Arthritis Foundation at arthritis.org.
