Clifton Bennet Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 5, 2024.
Clifton Lawrence "Larry" Bennet, age 72, of Bay Village, Ohio, passed away January 18, 2024, in Ames Hospice, Westlake, OH, after a courageous and optimistic, 3-1/2 year battle with colon cancer. He was born November 16, 1951, to Clifton W. and Katherine (Hutter) Bennet in Cleveland, Ohio. Larry was a 1970 graduate of Bay High School. Larry lived in the Washington, D.C., area for many years and served as vice president/marketing director of Crib N' Cradle, winning awards at juvenile & infant trade shows.

Larry returned to Bay Village and worked as a freelance photographer, website designer and a surrogate parent to many dogs. He was a nature lover and regularly hiked the area trails with his camera and canine friends. Larry was an award winning photographer and videographer. If there was a photo event for area schools and the community Larry was there to take pictures. We all loved his photo skills, by camera, phone or drone, capturing nature at area lakes and parks, especially Cahoon Creek and Lake Erie in Bay Village. We always looked forward to Larry's awesome "Fourth of July" firework photos and videos. Larry's dog training skills were superior and he had many four-legged friends. He could be seen walking the streets with multiple dogs daily. Larry's videos, dog walk clips and drone captures are still available on You Tube.

Larry is survived by sisters Laura Liggett (David), Carole Tackett (Doug) and Marsha Regan (Tim); nieces & nephews Erica Regan, Melissa Vitelli (John), Colleen Regan,

Timothy Regan (Lynn), Elizabeth Forbringer (Chris), Kevin Regan (Paul), and Katherine Tackett (Stephen); two grand-nephews and five grand-nieces. He will also be missed by his long-time friends Eric (Cynthia) Eakin, Jim Belanger and Sean Crum, and many other family members, friends and neighbors. Larry was preceded in death by his canine companions Shadow and Sled.

Private services were held. Memorial donations may be made to the Friendship Animal Protective League of Lorain County, 8303 Murray Ridge Rd., Elyria, OH 44035.

I will miss Larry's wit and talent and kindness. He was present at many sporting events and captured wonderful images of the athletes in my city (Rocky River) and others in the WestShore. Rest in peace Larry. I am praying for his family and close friends.

I first met Larry in study hall at the old Bay High School in 1968. He sat across from me. We shared a lot of laughs when we were supposed to be studying. Larry was such a close friend that I remember all kinds of adventures with him. His car dying at Gore Orphanage, Metro Park late night drives, hanging out at Huntington Beach, parties, and playing cards. The list goes on and on. Party on Larry. Save me a place.

I will miss seeing Larry walk the dogs around the neighborhood. I got to know Larry many years ago after he took some photos on my son playing Bay Men´s Coach Pitch baseball for the Westlife. Those are some cherished photos of him as a boy. Later Larry watch our dog Puck many times. She was always more behaved after spending time Larry. He was a good man and will be missed by many humans and canines a alike?

Larry was my first boyfriend in high school (1969-70). He was funny, sweet and patient. We had many adventures at Bay High. I moved away after graduation and regret not having more time to spend with him. My condolences to the family.

I am so happy to have had a friend like Larry. It's so difficult to make sense of all this. I know Larry wants us to carry on and be happy with what we have. I think of him every day. I remember our trip to my cabin in PA with Eric and other friends. I'll never forget. Larry was so brave throughout his ordeal and never complained. He will be missed by all.
