Clinton O. "Coach" Brown

HENDERSON - Services for Clinton O. "Coach" Brown, 82, Henderson, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Jenkins Memorial CME with the Rev. Donald Hampton and Tony Zinnah Jr., the Rev. Dr. Valita F. Waits and Elder Darryl Madlock officiating.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home, Henderson.

Coach Brown died Jan. 16, 2008, in a Tyler hospice.

He was born March 2, 1925, in Henderson to the late Robert and Texana Clay Brown. He lived in Rusk County most of his life and attended Texas College, Prairie View A&M University and Stephen F. Austin State University. He was an educator, coach and Southwest Conference official. He was a member of Jenkins Memorial CME, Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, American Legion Post 844, Texas State Teachers Association, National Education Association and Boy Scouts of America. He served in the Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by son, Clinton O. Brown Jr.; sister, Alice M. Lacy; and brothers, Claude Brown and Ennis Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Brown; daughter, Lynda Brown Robertson; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Roberson, Michael Roberson, Clinton O. Brown III, Carey Brown, Billy Jacobs, Authur "Pete" Brewster, L.B. Starling, E.E. Hill, Broderick Gupton and A.D. Hall.

Members of American Legion Post 844 will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
