Cody Root Obituary
When someone you love becomes a memory….the memory becomes a treasure ~ Cody J. Root, 29, of Smithboro passed away on Friday morning, September 18, 2015. Cody was born on December 6, 1985 in Johnson City, NY a son of James L. and Catherine (Layman) Root. He was a 2004 graduate of Tioga Central High School and enjoyed spending time working on his cars. Cody will be greatly missed by his parents: Jim and Cathi Root; his son Seth who he loved deeply, Jeanine Root ~ the mother of his child; sisters and brother-in-law: Shannon and Geren Brink of LeRaysville, PA; Jamie Root; Terry Root, both of Newark Valley; his maternal grandmother Sally Layman of South Carolina; aunts and uncles: Robert and Sandy Layman of Tioga Center, NY; Bruce Layman of Apalachin, NY; Debbie Layman of Endicott, NY; Robert and Beverly Root of Berkshire, NY; William "Bill" Root of Smithboro, NY; Roberta and Donny Bostwick of Smithboro; Barb Robinson of Smithboro; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Cody was predeceased by his paternal grandparents: Carlton and Louise Root of Smithboro; maternal grandfather Bruce Layman of Apalachin and South Carolina; maternal grandmother Barbara Layman of Apalachin; his aunt and uncle Carl and Betty Barnum of Owego. Abiding with the families wishes, services will be held at the convenience of the family. Those who wish may kindly consider a memorial contribution to the Smithboro United Methodist Church, c/o Linda Brink, PO Box 37, Nichols, NY 13812. Cody its been a pleasure meeting you and your family and at one point I actually could call you my brother in law.You were always polite and respectful and down to earth and it I always felt comfortable being around you.You always put a smile on my face at some point.Ill never forget one Thanksgiveing when me and your sister showed up at your mom n dads.You were trying to climb a tree,you had both hands on one of the branches trying to walk up the trunk of the tree and you almost got your feet around the branch you were holding when all of the sudden the branch broke and you fell straight down on the ground with the branch still in your hands!!!LOL!!!!I couldnt help but look at you and laugh the whole time we were haveing dinner....You were quite the character.Im gonna miss you brother ,they say the good always leave at a young age.Well I guess they are right you were a wonderful person Cody and im gonna miss ya buddy."BROTHER".Till we meet again,watch over all of us and God Bless you.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
