Colin Geraghty Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 15, 2013.
Colin Geraghty died as a result of an automobile accident as he headed to work in Minneapolis, MN on Saturday morning, April 13, 2013. He leaves behind his Wife, Ann, and his Step-Sons, Logan & Jax. Colin also leaves behind an extended family that was very proud of where he had come from to become a hardworking and devoted husband and father. Colin Klippel Geraghty was born on November 5, 1984 in Anchorage, Alaska. On October 22, 1988, Colin's mom, Ruth Mishel, married Mike Geraghty and they started a family with Colin as Son #1. Four more siblings eventually joined the brood and there were many more cousins, uncles, and aunts. Colin spent his childhood with his active family immersed in sports, family gatherings and vacations, and summertime at the family cabin at Harding Lake. He was an accomplished athlete who played competitive hockey throughout his youth, including two National Championship tournaments. After graduating from Dimond High School in 2003, Colin demonstrated his strength of character when he successfully confronted his personal struggles with determination and grit. He moved to Minneapolis in 2008, where he built a network of supportive friends, enjoyed numerous activities, and met the love of his life, Ann Evans. He became devoted to Ann's kids and in the last month learned that he and Ann would be having a child in September, a son that he was already very proud of. Colin worked in a variety of fields, including home construction, hard wood flooring, and putting his Harding Lake experience to work as a certified pool operator. He recently started a new career with Avis at the Minneapolis Airport, and he was headed to that job on the morning of his fatal accident.
Colin will be remembered for a playful sense of humor, his love of family, generosity of spirit and a remarkable sense of kindness to those in need -- and for his personal courage. Colin is survived by his Maternal Grandparents, Tom & Mary Klippel, with whom he had a very close bond. He also stayed in frequent contact with his 94-year-old Grandmother, Angela Geraghty. In addition he leaves behind his proud and loving parents, Mike & Ruth Mishel Geraghty; his Brothers, Michael "Mickey", Kiefer & John "Jack"; and his beloved Sister, Devin; his "aunts," Stacy Monaghan (Sean) of Calgary, Pamela Wendt (Brad) of Phoenix, Caprice Springer (Brad) of Anchorage, and Lynn Klippel of Eagle River; his Uncle, Steve Geraghty (Lisa) of Fairbanks; his other "uncles," Jim Matherly (Moriah), Jeff Matherly, & Steve Elliott, all of Fairbanks; Cousins, Jessi & Matt Pfiester of Fairbanks, Tess & Tommy Klippel of Eagle River, John Vallentine of Prescott, AZ, Stephanie Vallentine of Scottsdale, AZ, and JC Durante, Matt, Alex & Evan Carson, all of Anchorage -- and a host of junior "cousins," too numerous to mention here but loved nonetheless. Colin was preceded in death by his Uncle & Godfather, K.C. Klippel; Grandfather, Clyde Geraghty; Aunts & Uncles, Olga & Ken Carson and Vera & Jim Matherly; and Cousins, Scott Carson & Galena Klippel.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 17th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Wulff Woodbury Funeral Home, 2195 Woodlane Dr, Woodbury. Remembrances will be shared at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are preferred.
A Funeral Service will be held for Colin at 2:00 PM this Saturday, April 20, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 545 W. 8th Avenue, Anchorage. A reception will follow immediately afterwards at the Geraghty's home, 6761 Reklas Circle. The family intends to start a fund for Colin's yet-to-be born child and asks that friends who want to honor his memory please coordinate contributions through his good friend Sam Tikka at Edward Jones Investments, (907) 334-3029.

I knew a side of Colin that nobody else did. I was lucky enough to have the deepest parts of his soul to myself. His feelings, his dreams, his fears, his many ramblings that showed me who he was at his most human levels. My best friend, my confidant, my soul mate, my partner, my co-signer, my lover, my everything. Over five months have passed and life isn't getting any easier like people keep telling me it will. I still cry every day. I see your eyes in Oliver's sometimes, and it both fills me with love and moves me to tears. No one will ever take your place, as nobody could even begin to fill your shoes. Even years into our relationship we could sit up until sunrise talking and not get bored by each others stories. My love, my darling, my husband, my one and only who gave me his everything the moment he said "I do ". I am forever yours, both here on earth where I am damned to live without your loving touch and when I get to kiss you again in heaven.
And, my darling, we made a beautiful and absolutely perfect little boy. He has your eyes and lips - I am blessed to be allowed a glimpse of you from time to time when you come visit and watch me through Oliver's eyes. Sometimes, suddenly Ollie's gaze appears older than his actual years, showing a flash of knowledge and wisdom...and that is when I know you are with us. In our hearts forever, in our physical presence only on occasion, but always watching over us.

I just found out this afternoon 08/04/13 that my "brother from another mother" Colin, had passed away in April. I'm saddened for those of us he left behind. I hope that Ann will get this message. I texted Colin a final message today after I finally found out why he wasn't returning my text messages to him...

I'm so sorry that I won't be seeing you in MN!

I convinced Colin four years ago to take the class and become a Certified Pool Operator knowing he needed a job and I needed him. Although we were close we became even closer as I helped him learn the pool business.....often in the middle of the night when I got the call that he did not want to make.......he could not get the filters back together and everything was leaking. I would get out of bed and go down to rescue him ....first with a hug to calm him and second with help and advice. He would then see the world was not ending and give me his wry yet warm smile. Since Colin is not down here to open the pool this year I have pretty much done it myself. Colin closed up the pool in the fall fully expecting to be the first one in the spring to be down to open and clean up any unfinished business. Instead....he left everything for me......which includes 14 empty Rock Star energy cans.........somehow I find it extraordinary that they were all lined up neatly on his shelf in the office for me to find. As I open everything he closed he has brought many smiles and some tears to my face and I've talked to him often from HIS pool in the last 2 weeks.
I know we will forever have him in our hearts.........but I'm lucky enough to have all the surprises and treasures he left for me at the pool:)
God Speed Colin.....We miss You.

Deepest sympathies. Colin was always that spunky boy starting in Mrs. Dworsky's kindergarten and growing into a wonderful young man through high school. He was a friend to Brooke and kept everyone on their toes. We remember him fondly.

Our hearts are heavy. We cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to lose a child, a young husband and father. I remember hockey player Colin coming to the office and our common interest
was hockey. Colin was a far more outstanding player than our son. The thoughts and prayers of so many have to be with all of you.

I am so sorry for this very sad loss.

I only met Colin only two times at Avis and noted that he was so cheerful, helpful, and had a wonderful smile.

God's blessing and support for all of his family, especially to his wife Ann, his little boys, new son.

I did not know Colin well, however I enjoyed his presence while working together doing hardwood floors. Colin was a kindhearted man that I wish I had gotten to know better than just a coworker. He was a great guy and I am deeply saddened of his passing. My deepest condolences to his wife, son, stepsons, and the rest of his family and friends. He was a good man I thought highly of. I pray for his family and friends to be strong and rejoice in the memories we all have of Colin and celebrate them.

Ann,
I am so terribly sorry to hear about Colin. I know that I only briefly got to know you through Butters and Beans, but what I did and the couple of times that I saw Colin, it was obvious how much he loved you. I know that no words can take away the pain that you are going through but know that you and the boys are on my heart and in my prayers.

May his love for you and the memories that you shared be of comfort in the days ahead.

In love and prayers,
Heather

I am deeply saddened to hear of Colin's passing. My children and I had the pleasure of meeting Colin in 2010 through my family. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting him and briefly getting to know him.My children, especially my son, were drawn to him. My son and Colin bonded over both being Yankee fans. That year we exchanged some good natured texts during the AL division series when Colin was mysteriously routing for the Twins instead of the Yankees. :) Over the years, from time to time, I would hear about Colin from my dad and I have always thought highly of him. I know he has a special place in my dad's heart. We also will always hold a special place for Colin in our thoughts and prayers. My prayers go out to Colin's parents, siblings, wife, and his baby on the way. God Bless.

My heart is heavy. There is another angel above looking down on his family. The memories we hold of Colin are so precious. His smile and humor will always be remembered. Colin played hockey and enjoyed hanging out with my son Michael from the age of 8 or 9. I was jealous when the two of them went to Dawson City with Colin's grandparents and I had never been there before. Michael lived near Colin and Ann in MPLS and had the pleasure of selling them a vehicle and hanging out recently. For that I'm grateful. The long standing secret "funny" through Jr. High and High school was that Colin would be my daughter's future husband. As my daughter Dawn was 4 years older and almost a foot taller, you had to see the humor in this..... Having the pleasure of knowing and spending time with such an amazing family over the years is a true testament of Colin's perseverance and love for his own family. Colin's parents, Mishel and Mike, siblings, grandparents and his dear wife Ann, children and unborn child; May you find strength is the wonderful memories and cherished times. All my Love, Prayers and Hugs are sent your way during this difficult time.

My sincere condolences go to Colin's wife Ann, parents, siblings, extended family and friends.
I am deeply saddened to have to say goodbye to such a nice, funny, smart and hardworking man. I didn't know Colin for a very long time but lately we've become friends and shared a lot of funny stories about our lives and talked about our families. He is already missed and made an impact on not only me, but also our co-workers.
I will always remember his smile, sense of humor and the Rockstar energy drinks always by his side.
You are and will be very missed, Colin!
