Connie Hopper Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 13, 2016.
BLOOMINGTON - Connie Wallen Hopper, 61, of Bloomington, died Thursday (Feb. 11, 2016) at the Bickford House, Bloomington.

Cremation rites have been accorded per her wishes and her ashes will be buried at East Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

A celebration of her life is being planned for a later date by her family.

Connie Louise was born Aug. 22, 1954, in Gibson City, the daughter of Jones Edward and Frances Louise Adams Wallen. She married David Hopper on Sept. 11, 1982, in Bloomington. David died Jan. 28, 2004.

She is survived by three brothers, Ben (Gayle) Wallen, Pekin; Dennis Wallen, Bloomington; and Don (Sharon Halpin) Wallen, Cornell. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Denna (Craig) Satchwell, LeRoy; Laura (Jeremy) Garrett, Groveland; Craig (Natalia) Wallen, Miami, Fla.; and Kayden Wallen, Bloomington; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Carson, Delaney and D.J. Satchwell, Aidan and Rosabella Wallen and Analise Garret.

Preceding her in death were her parents, grandparents, an infant brother and her husband.

Connie grew up in Saybrook and was a graduate of Saybrook High School. She was a member of Saybrook Christian Church. She worked for Deluxe Check Printers and Diversified, and was the coat checker at many Illinois State University basketball games and other functions.

She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Upon her name change to Hopper, Connie became a collector of anything froggie. She dearly loved all dogs.

The Wallen family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Compassus Hospice, as well as and especially to the staff and residents of Bickford House for their loving support and care of Connie.

Donations can be made in her honor to Wishbone Canine Rescue, 1303 Morrissey Drive, Bloomington, IL 61701 at 309-808-4477. Condolences may be shared with the family at eastlawn-bloomington.com.

To Connie's family: I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I met Connie the first week after I moved my mom (Audrey Cornelius) into Bickford. She always smiled at me and answered all my questions. She also took great care of my mom and made sure she felt welcomed. I miss seeing Connie doing her puzzles and giving me her great big smile when I walked in the room. She is truely missed. My deepest sympathies.

Connie (dare I say Buzzard) was one of my best friends growing up. We got into some trouble that is probably best not mentioned--food fights and one time we borrowed Waxy's car without his knowledge (sorry Don). I know she had a tough time health wise these last few years, but I will remember her great smile and infectious laugh! Now she can again be with her true love--Dave.

I have so many good memories of Connie and the fun we used to have growing up in Saybrook. She did have a great smile, and her laugh was contagious!!! I know how much you will all miss her, and you have my deepest sympathy.

With my deepest sympathies for each of you. I remember Connie from school and the Saybrook Christian Church. She had a laugh and smile that can't be forgotten. May God bless you in this time of sorrow. Mary Hudson Keith

So sorry to hear about Connie. I went to school with her in Saybrook. She was the most fun to run around with, full of life. We had a blast. I'll always remember her and that smile and her laugh. She's gone way too soon. Peggy Williamson Clark.
