Constance Gee Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 1, 2023.
Born September 1, 1929 in Taishan China and passed away unexpectedly on March 22 2023. Connie arrived in the US via Hong Kong and attended Commodore Stockton school in SF where she learned to speak, read, and write English. Connie worked at Simmons as a seamstress for close to 30 years before retiring in 1992 to babysit for her first grandchild, Rose. Connie and Noble provided loving care of not only their grandchildren but also extended family which included nephews Junior, Johnny, Jason, Justin and grand nephew Michael.Connie was a skilled seamstress who sewed clothes for herself as well as her daughter Inverleith and mother-in-law Yuke Bo. She enjoyed going to Payless to pick a pattern (McCall's/Simplicity), finding just the right fabric to take home to cut and sew. She also enjoyed spending time in her greenhouse tending to a variety of plants and made the best Chinese soups and sticky rice for every holiday meal and Sunday family dinner.Connie had a gift for paying special attention to what you liked to eat and then surprised you with it. Grandsons Brandon had a shrimp chip that he liked so it became her mission to find them, Evan's Yakult; grandson-in-law Tyler's sweet & sour pork; granddaughters Lauren's "hom siew gok", Rose's tomato beef chow mein, and peking duck for tax lady Mary amongst others.Simple things made her happy: Playing mahjong, reading her daily Sing Tao newspaper, Round Table pepperoni & bacon pizza, crunchy Cheetos, her first pair of Skechers, son in-law Joe's cappuccino, grandson-in-law Sean's crab salad, spending time with grandsons Brandon and Evan, and teaching her grandchildren how to play mahjong. She was a very giving and selfless person who showed her appreciation by giving gifts and lai see to many people including the wait staff at restaurants, the ladies at her favorite dim sum places and even the nurses at the doctor's office. Her husband Noble was her constant companion and she missed him so much when he left us on January 12, 2022. While they enjoyed 58 years of marriage here on earth, they are now together forever playing mahjong.Connie is predeceased by her parents Hurbert Woo and Daun Cheung Tai, husband Noble, brother David Woo, and nephew David Woo Jr. She leaves behind her children Inverleith (Joseph) and Harvey (Leelind), grandchildren Rose (Tyler), Lauren (Sean), Brandon, Evan, and dear cousin Margie as well as many lifelong friends and extended family.A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 5 at 11:00am at Chapel of the Chimes Oakland, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, followed by interment at Chapel of the Memories, 4401 Howe Street.
