Coriene White, 85, of Clinton, passed away Saturday night, May 1, 2010, at Springhill Village Nursing Facility, in Terre Haute. Born March 22, 1925, in Elva, Tenn., which is now part of Big South Fork National Park, she was the daughter of Isaac Marion King and Hattie Bell (Hatfield) King. She married Herman White, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1979. Coriene was the co-founder of White Construction Inc. She was an avid gardener and cook. She also was a major benefactor and contributor to the Wabash Valley Community Foundation.
Survivors include four children, Karen White Smith and husband David of Windsor, Ill., Marcella White Speth and husband Bruce of Clinton, Anna M. White of Terre Haute, and Herman White II and wife Denise of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Michelle Smith of Windsor, Leslie Smith Richtor and husband Clint of Shelbyville, Ill., Natalie Speth of Berkely, Calif., Aaron Speth and wife Lindsay of Bloomington, Rachel Speth of Los Angeles, Herman White III, and Alyson Hanson and husband Ben, all of Clinton; four great-grandchildren, Trent White, Tyler White, Dominic Hanson and Ainslie Eident; a sister, Martha Kanizer of Rosedale; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and four sisters.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., in Terre Haute. Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, in Terre Haute. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vermillion County Community Foundation, or to the American Parkinson Disease Association Inc. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
