Cornetta "Corky" Kreye

Cornetta "Corky" Kreye, 79, of Wabasha, died peacefully with her family at her side on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Wabasha.

She was born Nov. 19, 1935, in Nelson, Wis., the daughter of Edwin and Selma (Quale) Sandberg. She was a graduate of Pepin High School. She married Richard "Cracky" Kreye Nov. 10, 1956, at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha. Corky was a homemaker and she also worked for several businesses over the years, the last as manager of the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post 4086 in Wabasha. She retired in 1998.

She was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Wabasha Fireman's Auxiliary. Her interests included playing bingo and cards and traveling with her husband, family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her loving family, especially her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Corky is survived by her husband, Richard "Cracky" Kreye, Wabasha; children and spouses, Debra and Keith Mueller, Burnsville, Jim and Vickie Kreye, Mike and Michelle Kreye, Jean and Steve Schwalbe and Susie Allen, all of Wabasha; 11 grandchildren, Heather, Kimberly, Melissa and Jennifer, Josh, Evan, Michaela, Jake and Zach and Connor and Jaden; seven great-grandchildren, Jazlynn, Malakai, Alaya, Noah and Tyler and Gracie and Addison; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dixie Sandberg, Hagerstown, Md.; brothers-in-law, Jim Belmore, Menomonie, Wis., and Bob Brownell, Eau Claire, Wis; sisters-in-law, Helen Robelia, Wabasha, Marcine Kreye, Beach Park, Ill., and Margaret Kreye, Durand, Wis.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Ednar and Russell Sandberg, and sisters, Irene Brownell and Eleanor Belmore.

A funeral Mass will be offered Friday, March 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha, with the Rev. Monsignor Thomas Cook officiating. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Todd Jahnke, Greg Hartung, Dan Meier, David Kreye, Dan Kreye and Charlie Kreye.

Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Thursday, March 19, from  4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 8 p.m., and they may call at the church on Friday one hour before the Mass.
