Corvin L. Loyd, 45, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010 at NKC Hospital. Visitation is Sunday, October 17, 4-7 p.m., Mt. Moriah Terrace Park. Funeral Ceremony, Monday, October 18, 10 a.m., Antioch Bible Baptist Church, 800 NE 72nd, KCMO. Burial following in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, Shawnee, KS. A memorial fund has been established for the Loyd children.
Corvin was born April 5, 1965 in Hutchinson, KS. He was employed by Harley Davidson of KCMO. Previously, by Dillion's, Comet Industries, and Stone Container.
Corvin was succeeded in death by his father, Harold Dale Loyd and sister Guida. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Jody, son, Alec Loyd and two daughters, Claire N. Loyd and Anna E. Loyd of the home; his mother Bonnie Loyd, sister Audrey (Dan) Hoffman, and brothers, Herb (Melanie) Loyd and Dennis (Ann) Loyd; his father-in-law, Charles (Mary Ann) Rosas , mother-in-law Clarene Rosas; many nieces, nephews, and an abundance of friends.
Corvin, affectionately called "Cork," lived with intention. He demonstrated this in the great love he has for his wife and children, and family members whom he also called, "friends." Whether doing dinner out on, "Friday Free Night," camping and boating or family bike rides, it was always an adventure. His girls' description of their daddy; "a great man, caring, loving, inspiring, a great explorer who loved the outdoors, always in a rush, loved the dirt and mowing, made hard decisions and didn't like to paint."
Corvin's life expression and passion was also to help people. Often first in line, his willingness was equipped with an uncanny know-how to repair, remodel, reconstruct or resurrect, things mechanical, engines, homes or farmscapes. He was found, in living and in dying, helping. Considered the "best friend" of many, Cork leaves an impression in hearts and minds to never be forgotten. Over the years I would like to tell everyone who Corvin was. he was an assembly worker, a service technician, a handyman, a maintenance man, a warehouse worker, a forklift operator, a delivery man, an auctioneer, a cowboy, a farmhand, a son, a husband, a dad, a brother, an uncle, a son-in-law, a friend, a TALKER, a listener, a man of God, a tough guy, a big softy and a brother-in-law who became my brother. Thanks Corvy for 19 years of being there for me. I miss you every day. I have your back!!!

Jody,
I am so, so sorry for the loss of your soulmate, Corvin. It breaks my heart that he is gone. He has left a wonderful legacy in your girls.
I'll never forget our dinners out and he was the life of the party! I have never seen Dr. Holkins laugh so hard! Also, his "Dr. Sear" costume. His amazed look at the biggest muffin he ever saw and his face when he got the lettuce wedge salad.
Corvin you will be so missed! I pray for Jody's, Claire's and Anna's broken hearts to be healed.

If you were to dare ask the question … ‘Did you know and love Corvin?’ it would be answered swiftly with “you could do no other” … and forever more he will he remain in my heart

… Corvin, appeared in our driveway within hours of us arriving to our new home. He and the Bush family were among the first of many in this amazing group of neighbors to say ‘welcome’ ;) .. in a matter of a few short days there were already long conversations while painting the inside of the garage and in no time a full tour of the Loyd house was underway (accompanied by the whole loving family including Alec - who even as a teenager-allowed us into his inner sanctum of a teenager’s bedroom …. The tour started with an insistent Corvin that was rising from his recliner to say “Hey, this is who we are so messy or not come on in …..” (our houses have basically the same floor plan and he was showing us how he had changed for the better the home he was so proud of and happy to share)
All I can say is to know the Loyd family is to love them …….. we feel so blessed that we had the time we have had together with Corvin .. his words, his smile, his advice and his ability to always be larger than life itself is forever engraved upon my heart. May I choose to live in a manner that honors his life and the way he chose to live it … may in the years to come I not forget to be willing to allow others to see me , my house or my life as insistently as corvin and say “ Hey this is who we are so messy or not come on in!!”
Nothing but love and blessings flow from us unto all whom now have a void that is uniquely Corvin .. May God bind up our tears .. and hold us tightly during this time

What a Great Dad!

first of all i am very sorry for the loyd family they lost a great man, corvin was an awesome person and friend i only knew him for a few years, but after i met him i found that the Bush,s my families life long friends were his nieghbor,s . corvin was my tractor buddy we both enjoyed workin on mower,s and tractor,s together
many times he was over at my house, or i his tradeing parts or just looking at the new prize we found. talking about the next great find we wanted. he had a very strong family value, he always was trying to do things to better his family. he will be missed greatly by mine. the last time i saw him he was riding around in my front yard on a tractor with my daughter on his lap, there were both laughing and having a wonderful time. even though we may not understand, the Lord has a plan for us all, and it was time for corvin to go home to God. may we all know and remember him for the great man he was, and know he is in a much better place......

Only for a brief moment did I have an opportunity to meet Corvin; at Herb and Melanie's wedding. What a fun, loving person he was. I am so sorry for your loss. It is never easy to lose the ones we love and are closest to. My thoughts and prayers reach out to you. I pray that the Lord will give Jody Ann, the girls, and each of all the family members his strength. May his strong arms give you his comforting embrace to face each new day!

To my dearest family, some things I’d like to say.
But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay. I’m writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above. Here, there’s no more tears of sadness; Here is just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy just because I’m out of sight. Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night. That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through. God picked me up and hugged me and He said, I welcome you. It’s good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, They’ll be here later on. I need you here so badly, you are part of my plan. There is so much that we can do, to help our mortal man. God gave me a list of things that he wished for me to do. And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you. And when you lie in bed at night the day’s chores put to flight. God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night. When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years. Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain. I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned. If I were to tell you, you wouldn’t understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is oer. I’m closer to you now, than I ever was before. There are rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; But together we can do it by taking one day at a time. It was always my philosophy and Id like it for you too; that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who is in sorrow and pain; then you can say to God at night....My day was not in vain. And now I am contented... that my life was worthwhile. Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile. So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low; just lend a hand to pick them up, as on your way you go. When you’re walking down the street and you’ve got me on your mind; I’m walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. And when it’s time for you to go...from that body to be free. Remember you’re not going...you’re coming here to me.

A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.

While I never had the pleasure of meeting Corvin, I know much about his character and personality through the example he surely must have set for Anna. She is a wonderful little girl that means the world to my daughter - she has truly been life-changing for Elizabeth in her friendship. Only a wonderful man could have raised such a special child. All of our thoughts and prayers are with your family in this time.

What can I say? I miss him. Every time I go out the door, I see something that reminds me of what I have lost. Who could believe the friendship that would start by this guy in a dark blue Ford truck, stopping in front of my house and trying to sell me a mower engine, when he could see that the tractor I was working on needed one really bad. (I bought that engine, by the way, and started a friendship that I will never forget.) I learned a lot from Corvin, and I like to think he learned some from me. He was usually the mechanical and welding guy on our projects, and I was usually the electrical guy, but together we made quite a team. We sure had a lot of fun, too. From calls back and forth talking of new tractor finds on Craigslist, to sitting on the front porch wasting time. Corvin taught me how to be a good neighbor and friend. I've never met anybody better. A while back, he forwarded me a text that had the following in it- "When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better." I can't possibly comprehend what that might be, but i'll be patient.

Corvin- I miss you man, more than words can say, but I'm not going to say goodbye. Goodbyes are final. This is not final. I'll see you again someday, but it's going to be a while.

So until then, see ya later.
