Cory LaMont Griffin

Cory La Mont Griffin, born on September 19, 1989, passed away on April 30, 2024, at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah, surrounded by his loving family. Cory's life was marked by his resilience and determination, despite being born with giantism, which eventually led to complications with renal failure that lead to his death.

In his final days, Cory harbored a strong desire to regain his health, aspiring to get his kidneys functioning well, become stronger, and achieve the best physical shape of his life. He aimed to return to indoor football, MMA, and resume working again. Despite his health challenges, Cory found fulfillment in his work, recently employed by the state of Utah cleaning up homeless camps in Salt Lake City.

Cory's dreams extended beyond his health and career; he longed for a home and a family, aspirations that were hindered by his health struggles. Despite his imposing stature, Cory was known for his gentle and warm-hearted nature, earning him the affectionate nickname of a "giant teddy bear." His wit and humor brightened the lives of those around him, always striving to make others laugh.

An avid gym enthusiast, Cory enjoyed lifting weights with his friends and had a passion for rapping. He cherished his relationship with his mother, who raised him as a single parent for much of his life, and his brother, Christopher, whom he deeply loved. Cory also shared a particularly close bond with his oldest cousin, Ken, whom he affectionately referred to as his uncle, speaking to him almost daily.

Cory is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Clarence Connors and LaMont Griffin, grandmothers, Lorrene Royce Connors and Florence Coddle Griffin, his aunts, Deborah Connors Cody, Brenda Griffin Ellingsworth, and Lawanna Griffin Mallet. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Connors, father, Kim Griffin, brother, Christopher Griffin, aunt, Linda (Michael) Birch, uncle, Kevin (Tauna) Connors, and a host of cousins and second cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his GoFundMe to cover funeral and memorial expenses. Cory will be cremated and eventually laid to rest next to his grandparents at Larkin Cemetery in Sandy, Utah.

A celebration of Cory's life will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 6pm-8pm at the Willow Farms church building at 1289 North 400 West Centerville, UT 84014. Cory's legacy of strength, humor, and love will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
