Craig GORDON Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen on Apr. 13, 2013.
GORDON, Craig Muir CA
It is with great sadness that the family of Craig Gordon announces his sudden and untimely death at the age of 56 years, on Thursday, April 11, 2013. Craig leaves behind a grief stricken family - his devoted wife and loving partner of almost 30 years Ann (nee Darnley), and cherished children Andrew, Duncan and Erica of whom he was extremely proud. The treasured son of Anne and Dallas Gordon of Ottawa, Craig was born in Grostequin, France, where his Father was stationed. He was the dear brother of Graeme (Robyn) and Jeanette Gordon. Special son-in-law of Joan and the late Arthur Darnley, and brother-in-law of Robert Darnley (Shayne), Belfast N. Ireland, and Ian Darnley (Martha), Calgary. Craig will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and extended family, and a great group of friends and team mates.
Craig was a partner at KPMG (formerly Cox, Merritt & Co. LLP) since 2003 where his dedication and professionalism will be missed by his co-workers and clients. He was a graduate of the University of Waterloo Co-op Mathematics program and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario since 1981. Since moving to Kanata in 1987, he has been an active member of the Kanata community serving with many volunteer groups and organizations. Craig's great sporting passion was hockey, from his beloved Red Wings to the many teams he played on, managed and coached. He never lost sight of it being just a game. His greatest joy in recent years was getting to play with his sons – the older players chuckling at the shouts of "Dad" as he flew up the ice with one of them calling for a pass.

Dear Ann, Andrew, Duncan and Erica,

We only just learned of Craig's passing and are so saddened for your loss. We knew Craig as our two children Kevin and Scott
grew up with Duncan and Erica in the same grades. We wish to extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to each of you at this most difficult of times. We saw Ann at Erica's commencement on Friday and were concerned when we did not see Craig by her side as always. Over the years we would always have time for a hello as we met at various school functions watching our children with pride, or at the local hockey arena cheering as parents do. Kevin personally wishes to let Duncan know he is thinking of him and is so sorry for his loss as does Scott for Erica.
With our sincere and deepest sympathies.

Craig played old timers hockey with me on Monday and Tuesday evenings for many years. For those that did not retire, they experienced playing with their sons & their friends. Although much older than Craig but not having any sons, I was fortunate enough to play with them and share their experience.
On behalf of players from Monday and Tuesday night hockey, we wish the Gordon family our deepest sympathy.
