Curtis Austin

COLUMBUS - Curtis H. Austin, 59, died Oct. 6, 2010, in Birmingham, Ala. Services are Saturday at noon at the James M. Trotter Convention Center in Columbus with the Rev. Kayin Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the service time at the Convention Center. Carter's Funeral Services has charge of arrangements. Mr. Austin was born in Columbus to the late Herman and Lucretia Austin. He was a judge, practicing attorney for 34 years, served on the Columbus City Council for eight years, served in the U.S. National Guard and was a member of Stephen Chapel MB Church, the Mississippi State Bar Association and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Herman Austin. He is survived by his wife, Qua Austin of Columbus; children, Curtis Austin and Jessica Elise Austin, both of Washington, D.C., Whitney Austin Pointe of Woodbridge, Va., Amelia Rebecca Austin of Columbus; siblings, Mary Austin Woodrick of Columbus, Peggy Austin Greene of Brandon, Carol Austin Bryant of Leesburg, Kenneth Austin of Columbus, Charles Wayne Austin of Southaven and two grandchildren. Pallbearers include Curtis Austin Jr., Michael Melvin, Marcus Melvin, Jason Austin, Olanre Woodrick, Charles Austin and Kenneth Austin.
