Curtis May Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 22, 2024.
Curtis M. May (44), of Cottage Grove, MN, passed away on Monday, April 15th, 2024.

Curt is survived by his parents, Ken and Dianne May; his wife, Kelli May; his daughter, Sidney May; his brother, James May; his nieces and nephew; and many friends he loved like family.

Curt was born in Rhode Island and had called Cottage Grove home over the last decade.

Curt was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend. He was the favorite of many in his life and was quick to smile and tell jokes as he enjoyed making others laugh. He enjoyed boating, fishing for that unattainable marlin, traveling, sporting events, listening to music, spending time with friends and family, talking about space, and singing his favorite karaoke song. His infectious personality was one of a kind. He cared deeply for all those who crossed his path and will forever be remembered for his empathy, compassion, endless love, laughter, and willingness to help anyone who needed it. To know him was to love him. His friends and family will deeply miss him.

A private celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 27th, 2024.

I met Curtis and his family when he was about 10 or 11 years old, and was asked to be his Godmother when he was baptized later. We went on memorable camping trips to the beach and enjoyed all of the fun 4 boys could have- I had 2 of my own. Now, we have only 2 left- my son, Chad, passed away 6 years ago, and now, Curt. It´s a very sad time, but we were all happy to be such good friends for all of these years.

I remember when Curt first started getting serious with Kelly. He was so excited and was so happy that his daughter and Kelly got along so well. He was on cloud nine and couldn't wait to come in to tell me about his trips with them to lake. He absolutely love the water and his new little family. He was a great son and always told stories about helping his folks. Good man.

I also worked with Curt at UMR - he taught me so much - especially how to laugh at myself and not take all the work stuff too personally. Collaboration is a big word at UMR - Curt collaborated with me to bring a co-worker his favorite beer for his birthday as I could not get it in WI. Now there's a true friend! Spread your angel wings and share all the joy you brought to us here on earth to all those in heaven. Until we meet again my friend.....

I first met Curt when he was helping out in Florida on our maintenance team. He always had a huge smile on his face no matter what craziness was going on. I saw him time and time again make a resident's or staff member's day with his help, laughter, and conversation.
My deepest sympathies to all his friends and loved ones.

I remember being at my Cousin Bec and Luke´s wedding. I watched Curt tear up the dance floor all night. I was quite young and in awe of his dance moves - he even did the move where you grab your own leg and jump over it. I´ll never forget that
