Curtis Walker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 15, 2023.
Curtis Walker, 66, of Sacramento, CA, died Tuesday, April 4th after a long period of declining health. A private family memorial will take place on May 13th with Curtis' ashes scattered at sea near the Golden Gate Bridge. Please take a moment to think of him whenever you pass this crossing and perhaps crank up Led Zeppelin on your stereo. A portion of Curtis' cremains will also be interred in a family cemetery in Georgia.

A native of Thomasville, Georgia, Curtis relocated to California after enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Turner Joy as a Radio Telegraph Operator and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal. Following his military service, Curtis spent his remaining career as an Administrator for the State of California, retiring from the California Employment Development Department in 2009. Curtis became politically active in his retirement, with a special focus on disability and civil rights issues. A significant moment of pride was when he was selected as a delegate for the 2008 Democratic Convention nominating then Senator Obama for the presidency. The Party later recognized Curtis' tireless volunteer efforts to win Nevada County for Obama with an award for "the biggest win in the unlikeliest area."

Curtis is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sherri Nash-Walker of Sacramento; his son, Matthew Walker; his daughter, Lindsay Walker; and one grandson, Owen Walker.
