Cynthia Kellogg Barrington, 68, died in Branford, CT on Thursday August 19, 2010. She was born in Worcester, MA December 2, 1941. She summered for many years as a toddler and teenager in Branford, CT. She was the daughter of Laurence W.L. Barrington of New Rochelle, N.Y. and Lois Hall Barrington of Meriden, CT.

She leaves a sister, Faith W. Barrington of Branford and a brother, Gerald R. Barrington of Darien, CT.

Cynthia attended the Bancroft School. She graduated from Northhampton School for Girls in Northhampton, MA. She earned her B.A. in Theater and Art from Elmira College in Elmira, N.Y. She received her M.A. in Theatre Arts from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. As a high school student she worked as an intern at several summer stock theaters including the Long Wharf Theater on Nantucket Island, MA and the Ivoryton Playhouse in Ivoryton, CT which was part of the "Straw Hat" circuit at the time, staging the leading roles with "star" personalities. After graduate school she moved to New York City where she worked as a free lance costume designer and stage manager on numerous productions Off-Broadway, Lincoln Center, Alvin Ailey Dance Company, and participated in the original productions staged at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. She also designed for many other theaters in New England, St. Louis, Harrisburg, and the Cleveland Playhouse. Later Cynthia moved to Harpswell, ME, where she opened Summersweet Handcrafters Gallery with her good friend Mary Korsiak. They sold a wide range of distinctive crafts created by distinguished artists from Maine and New England.

Cynthia moved to Branford several years ago to reside in the cottage owned by her family for several generations. She worked as an assistant floral designer for the Branford Flower Shop where she created an endless variety of floral arrangements for weddings, funerals, and special events.

Cynthia loved to garden. She loved theater, dance, and music. She expressed her loves through drawing and painting for many years which eventually took the form of costume sketches. She had a passion for beauty, nature, and the fine arts.

A memorial scattering of her ashes will be held at a time to be announced. Burial will be private at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden, CT. There are no calling hours.
