Cynthia Gardner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2025.
Cynthia Ellen Cher Gardner, affectionately known as Catface, passed away on March 13, 2025, at the age of 70 in Tacoma, Washington. Born on February 8, 1955, in Seattle, Washington, Cynthia was a true embodiment of beauty, both inside and out. Her life was marked by her loving and adventurous spirit, her exceptional talents as a guitarist, jeweler, and crafts person, and her fierce loyalty to her family and friends.

Cynthia attended Webster and James Monroe primary schools, followed by Ballard High School. After graduating, she began a fulfilling career at GM Nameplate, where she formed lifelong friendships. She devoted much of her adult life to being a loving wife and mother. Her personal life was marked by both joy and profound challenges, particularly the painful loss of her oldest son at a very young age spirited away by his father and his fathers parents will -as a inexperienced young Cindy,s first marriage crumbled. Cindy suffered more traumatic losses due to the suicide death of her second husband George and the unexpected death of their only daughter infant Mercedes.

Throughout her life, Cynthia was deeply involved in her community and spiritual pursuits. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church Ballard and later embraced the spiritual teachings of the Cherokee nation. Her hobbies were a testament to her creative and nurturing nature; she was passionate about arts, crafts, and caring for a variety of pets, including dogs, cats, reptiles, fish, pet rats, and guinea pigs.

Cynthia is survived by her brothers, Gary Allen and Keith Harrison; sons, Jason, Sam, and Dakotah; aunt, Joyce Eide; and her cherished granddaughter, Shelbie KayAnn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Doretta; husband, George Power; and several beloved aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

A graveside urn vault double internment service will be held to honor Cynthia's life on Saturday, May 3, at 12 noon at Bonney Watson, Washington Memorial Park in SeaTac, Washington. Bonney Watson Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her as a brilliant, caring, and adventurous soul.

Hello from Harry G. to some of my dearly departed sisters loved ones. I want to thank you all so very much for your support and loving and precious words, memories and priceless photos. They each and all have helped me survive my extremely painful loss. I have been working hard to make a special monument for my Cindy as she asked me if I would -so after weeks and months now her monument is going to production and final placement. I hope to rest now knowing that I have done my very best for my family and I wish you all Gods blessings and peace.

As I reflect on the passing of my cousin, I find myself drawn not to the complicated later years, but to the sweet, laughter-filled moments of our younger days.

I spent a variety of mini vacays away from my home at the home of my Auntie Dee and Uncle Harry (may they both RIP and rejoice in their first born having joined them) at their home in the Ballard area of Seattle, WA. Auntie's kitchen always smelled like something good was baking, especially Auntie Dee´s unforgettable carrot cake. If you ever had a slice, you know it wasn´t just good, it was legendary.

Those gatherings were full of life: like when Auntie Dee would be telling a story, Uncle Harry jumping in to finish her sentences, usually heading in a completely different direction, which only made everyone laugh harder (at least I know I was!).

There was joyful chaos in those walls; cousins running around, stories being passed down, laughter that made your sides hurt. That´s the part of our shared life I choose to hold onto, the joy, the noise, the feeling of belonging to something bigger than just one moment in time.

And although Cindy experienced the heartbreaking loss of her baby girl, Mercedes, in childbirth (something I know she never fully recovered from, and why she once told me she didn't like to celebrate Easter she once told me), I like to believe they are reunited now, two souls finally together, finding the peace and love they so deeply deserve.

Though life held its share of sorrow and complexity for Cindy, as it does for all of us, today I choose to remember the good times we once shared. I honor the light that once was. May she rest in peace, and may her memory bring comfort to those who loved her.

The photo is one I found of my Dad, Ernest Obermarck Sr (passed in Feb 2011, RIP), along with Cindy and her boyfriend, Earl, at my parent's surprise 50th wedding anniversary in July 2010.)

With heartfelt condolences to her children, grandchildren, brothers Gary and Keith, and her neice, Serina.

My precious and beautiful sister -
how swiftly time pulls us towards destiny´s doorstep and tearful goodbye.

Being your baby brother and having your agape love ,fierce protection, shared moments and memories, and amazing companionship all throughout our 68 years together -have always meant the world to me and will carry me through and forever.
I will wait my "Cindy Lu and I love you"

and want each day that comes to end-
For us to be together again in the heavenly realm....when the eagle comes again for me and bring me home.
