Cynthia Miller Shively Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 28, 2025.
Cynthia "Cindy" Mae Miller Shively, 78, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on February 8, 2025. Cindy was born in June of 1946 in Sioux City, IA to her parents Leo and Ednamae Mikulicz. She had an older sister, Rebecca "Becky" who passed in 1994 from cancer. A graduate of East High School in Sioux City, IA, she then resided for many years in Coon Rapids, MN outside of Minneapolis, before moving to the Phoenix area over 30 years ago.

Cindy was a beloved wife to Bill Miller. He was the love of her life, and they shared 30 wonderful years together. After losing Bill, Cindy met a kind US Army veteran, James "Jim" Shively. They married and shared several happy years together before Jim passed.

Cindy was known for her strong, independent spirit and her unique artistic talents. She embraced a vibrant community of friends and pursued her passions for painting, gardening, and floral arranging. Her creative and artistic flair was evident. She was a loyal and supportive friend to many in her adopted community in the Valley. She had a deep affection for animals, this started at a young age, particularly dogs, who were constant companions throughout her life, including her sweet rescue, Stella. Before Stella, she had French Bull Dogs and Boxers.

She is survived by her son, Anthony Miller; grandson, Colton Miller; niece, Elizabeth Batisto (Steven); and extended family including sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Ednamae Mikulicz; sister, Rebecca "Becky" Hunger; and husbands, William "Bill" Miller and James "Jim" Shively.

A Celebration of Life was held on March 8th, and Cindy will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Bill in Darwin, MN. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions in Cindy's memory to your favorite animal rescue or to https://www.tgen.org/giving/celebration-of-life/special-funds/cynthia-miller-shively/. Cindy lost her father, sister Becky and her husband Bill to cancer, so this supports TGen's continued research to find better, smarter treatments and improve human health.

Cindy's legacy of laughter, creativity and fun-loving spirit will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
