Cynthia Palma

Dover Plains - Cynthia Palma, 99, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY died on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT. Mrs. Palma was an account adjuster for Macy's in New York, NY for 40 years, retiring in 1985. In 1988, Mrs. Palma joined the Foster Grandparent Program and also worked at the day care center at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, NY and later the Wingdale Elementary School where she was affectionately known as "Grandma Cindy."

Born on November 10, 1915 in Colon, Cuba she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Marie (Reid) Sharpe. In 1919, Mrs. Palma moved to Jamaica and later came to New York in 1948. On September 18, 1928 at the Church of The Good Shepard in New York, NY she married Peter Palma who predeceased her on August 28, 1976. In June of 1988 Mrs. Palma moved to Dover Plains, NY. On July 2, 2000 at St. James Episcopal Church in Dover Plains, NY she married Nathan Rereruzzi who survives at home.

Cynthia was well known for her pies and jams she sold as fund raisers for her churches. She was an avid gardener and world traveler.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Palma is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Sharpe of Toronto, Canada and Paula Palma and her companion, Ken Hannibal of New York, NY. She is also survived by a grandson, Rahm Sharpe-Bebe; two nephews, Jon and Evan Sharp and several cousins in Canada. Besides her parents and first husband, Mrs. Palma was predeceased by a sister, Gladys Botzaris and a brother, Maxwell Sharpe.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the funeral home with Rev. Jon Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Dover Plains, NY.
