Cynthia Phillips Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 11 to Jan. 12, 2022.
Cynthia Fuller Phillips passed away peacefully in Cincinnati on December 8, 2021. She was 64. She is survived by her sons, David and Robert Phillips, their father and former husband Tim Phillips, her sister Alisa Cromer and brother David and his wife Nancy Fuller and their children Andrew, Steven and Carson, her cousin Laurie Gilkes, and too many friends to count. Susan Weldy remained at her side for most of the time during her year-long battle with cancer.

Her biggest passion in life was her two sons for whom she would do anything.

Cindy grew up in Washington, D.C. where she attended Holton Arms School for girls, and later HighPoint University in North Carolina. She worked for many years in the customer service industry in Cincinnati where her kindness and gentle spirit made lifelong friends out of co-workers who were a constant source of joy and meaning. Many were at her side in her last weeks.

Cindy had converted to Catholicism and lived the faith each day by putting the needs of others ahead of her own. She refused to say an unkind word to anyone. She could wrap a mean present and the legendary photo albums she designed and gave as presents became family heirlooms. She stopped a hospice nurse to "tighten the strings on your wings". At the end of the day, she gifted her physical body to science.

A post-Covid memorial service is planned for early March.

Thinking about Cindy, an old-fashioned phrase came to mind, "salt of the earth". To me, it connoted her being good, open, honest, kind, and unpretentious or preoccupied with herself-- qualities which are rare in people today.
After I looked it up, I found that it was a Biblical phrase, and had many connotations that describe Cindy's religiousity, but the one that resonated with me were: "embodying simplicity and moral integrity"; "bringing joy to people"; and being a person "who deals with difficult or demanding situations without making a fuss".
Cindy died as she lived, with honesty, and with concern for those around her. Most remarkable was her seemingly unwavering courage to accept her destiny with grace, and even to anticipate it with joy.
These things cannot be said about many people. Cindy was loved and admired by everyone who knew her. We miss her kind and gentle spirit, especially when it was punctuated by humor and raucousness!

Cindy was a wonderful friend whom I met in sixth grade. She was kind, generous and truly caring. My heartfelt condolences to her family. She will be missed. Godspeed, Cindy.
