Cynthia A. Pitts
“Cindy”
November 9, 1948 ~ March 29, 2023
Age ~ 74
Cynthia A. “Cindy” Pitts, 74, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2023, at Tomahawk Health Services Nursing Home.
She was born on November 9th, 1948, to Evelyn Margaret Hammond-Pitts and Harold Pitts in Rhinelander, WI. Cindy spent part of her childhood in Land O’Lakes, and later moved back to Rhinelander. She graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1967, enlisting into the Marine Corp in June of 1967 and proudly serving her country until March of 1971. After her service, Cindy continued her career as the Oneida County Veterans Service Officer. She helped other veterans seek out assistance after their own services.
Cindy was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Rhinelander where she led the church youth group on canoe camping trips and cross country, treks. As a social member of her community, she spent her time ardently playing pickleball with her pickleball friends. Cindy loved her time with family and friends, always caring and giving, willing to help those she cared for, and extending her hand to those in need.
Cindy is survived by her daughter, Mary Matyasz (Mark Matyasz), grandchildren Luke Matyasz and Alyssa Pitts, brothers, John Pitts, Todd Pitts and Lenny Youngren, and sister, Jan Strickland.
Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, and brother Jim Pitts.
Visitation for Cindy will be held on Thursday, April 6th at the First United Methodist Church of Rhinelander, located at 724 Arbutus Street from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The service will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Rev. Mark Klaisner will officiate. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held in the church hall with cake and coffee being served.
Interment will be held in the spring at Oak Hill Cemetery, Land O' Lakes.

Cindy will be one of my hospice friends who I will never forget. She was so humorous. She talked about how very much she loved her family and how proud she was of her daughter. One of her goals was to teach us pickle ball. She will be fondly remembered.
