CHIRDON – Cyril G., 97, Portage, died Oct. 30, 2009, in Altoona. Born May 6, 1912, in Gallitzin, son of George and Marie (Boland) Chirdon. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Mary (Smith) Chirdon; and these siblings: Joe and Paul Chirdon and Jane MacRae and Kate Smith. Survived by children, George Chirdon, and wife, Sally (Cerwensky); Zita Waclo, and husband, Steve; Glen Chirdon; Tom Chirdon, and wife, Cindy (Barnhart); Nancy Eslick, and husband, Jack; Danny Chirdon, and wife, Cheryl (Willinsky); Ermin Chirdon, and wife, Peggy (Davis); and Julian Chirdon, and wife, Mary Alice (Stephens). Also survived by 21 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Brother of William "Bill" Chirdon, Youngstown, Ohio; Eileen Kochara, Gallitzin; Marie Beard, Gettysburg; and Therese Farabaugh, Campbell, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cyril was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Portage, and a World War II Army veteran. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, where a service will be held by the Knights of Columbus at 7 p.m., and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Portage. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Portage, Father Walter Moll, celebrant. Committal to follow at St. Bartholomew Cemetery, Wilmore.

Family and friends of Cyril,
I'm was so shocked when I opened the paper today and saw Cyril's passing. I am the RSC at Lodge Run Apts where he lived. I was wondering why he wasn't downstairs playing pool all week. I will always remember him, especially our conversations when he was playing pool or outside walking. I called him my "little buddy." I will dearly miss him and I will keep all of you in my prayers.
