To the Francis Family: I was saddened to read of the death of Mr. Francis. He was a wonderful man and I had the greatest respect for him .When I met him, I was a single mother living in a housing project. He and Mrs Francis were campaigning in the area and he was just as comfortable having coffee in my humble kitchen as he would have been in the finest home on Island Park Dr. People in the neighbourhood knew that he cared about our concerns and needs. He quietly helped people with pension problems and helped others find jobs.He made a difference in the lives of many. I pray that God will give you comfort at this sad time.

Dear Francis family.
I would like to express my deepest sympathies at your fathers passing.
Your mom and dad were good friends of my mothers. Your parents helped my mother and I quite alot during the 60's and 70's. They always made sure we had a basket full of goodies at Christmas time, I also have other fond memories of spending time with your family too many to list here. Your Father will be missed.

Our deepest regrets on the loss of Lloyd. He made the gem show possible for us and we enjoyed our long talks about "rocks". We will never forget him.

Dear Paul,Don Elaine and families:
My most sincere sympathy at the loss of your Father. As you know I worked many years for him, both in and out of Parliment, as a result I felt that I was almost a member of your family. I served as his Chief of Staff and while he was Speaker I was his Executive Assistant. You have lost the "Chairman of the Board". For me it is the passing of an era. He will be in our thoughts, as he had an outstanding career. Both Gerry and I wish to offer to the entire famiy our most sincere sympathy.

My Great Uncle Lloyd was a man of amazing talents. He was former speaker of the house of commons, an ambassador to Portugal, and member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. But most importantly, he was a member of my family whom I have great respect for and will dearly miss.

Francis Family:
Sorry to hear about the loss of your father. My father Colin Thomson worked with him when he won his first election in the riding of Ottawa-Carleton against Dick Bell. I had the opportunity to speak to him at a Christmas Party that Beryl Gaffney had on the hill and we talked about many things including my father. He was a great Member of Parliament and he will be missed by many.

We are saddened to learn of Lloyds passing, and wanted you to know we are thinking about you in this time of great Family loss.Lloyd was such a cival person, and always a gentleman. Over the years he extended many courtesies to the Tuppers. We shared common interests in local and federal government, and in collecting rocks and minerals. The observation in his obituary that he was" A role model for all of us" is so true.
Our last conversation which lasted for nearly an hour started with a discussion about his "book" but covered many other topics. It was a priceless conversation that is cherished and will long be remembered. He was a remarkable friend.
We regret we cannot be with you on Saturday when you meet to celebrate Lloyds wonderful life.
Sincerely Georgie and Bill Tupper

Paul, Don, Mary Elaine & Family: I am so sorry to read today of Lloyd's passing. Unfortunatley I am out of the Country at this time. I recall with fondness the years that we spent on City Council and the accomplishments Lloyd could take credit for. His assistance in helping the Ottawa Transition Board was positive and appreciated. Deborah and I wish to express your sincere condolences.

I will miss my Uncle Lloyd. He taught me how to fish, and debate! My fondest memories are of my Dad and Uncle Lloyd talking with me and fishing with me at the Rideau lake. To many he is an influential politician. To me, he is simply my wonderful Uncle Lloyd whom I loved.

I am so proud to have had him as a great uncle, and a member of my family. It has always been, and continues to become clear how much he meant to his friends, country, and especially his family. He clearly left wonderful memories that will live on forever through those he touched.

My deepest sympathies to all Lloyd's family. We weren't close friends but I spent a lot of quality time with him over the years - at the UN, here in Ottawa at RHOMA gatherings and meetings of the Canadian- Sri Lanka friendship Society, at varous receptions etc. He knew I was interested in precious and semi- precious stones from my own years in Ceylon and I regret I never found time to accept his invitations to visit his basement workshop. I think yesterday's Citizen said it best: "He taught us the duty of public service."
