I met Dr Magee in the doctors lounge at MBMC Jackson probably not long after 1998. Over the years I always enjoyed talking with him about various subjects including his late wife's artwork, astronomy, and also about one of his doctors who was a cook helping formulate recipes I believe for the Emeril brand. The stories were always interesting but the understated way he would tell them made them even more interesting. I'm sure he touched many a thousand lives over his long career. Sorry to hear of his passing and imagine it must be quite a loss for his family because he was a special man and physician.

Dr. D.E. Magee was a very fine person. One of the finest in the entire world. I'm so happy to have known him. I was always enlightened to be in his presence. I will always remember him and his majestic wife Gwendolyn. They will always travel with me in my heart. My prayers are with him and his family.

D.E. and I served together for 8 years on the IHL Board of Directors. He was a joy to serve with and the closest of friends. D.E. was truly a Renaissance man. He was a wonderful physician, astronomer, gourmet cook, and lover of great music and wine. He taught me so much over the years and we shared some absolutely wonderful times together. He was also a fierce advocate for all of education but, especially, fair funding for the historically black universities. Please know what a legacy D.E. left for all of us.

As a child The Magee's were such an important part of my early development at St. Matthew A.M.E.Church, Greenville, MS.
Each holiday was so special during his undergraduate years and I watched as he provided such a wonderful example for the young men to follow!
His father was so proud of each accomplishment that he made! Your rest has come and the reunion of the reunions has been afford this magnificent solider!

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.

Dearest Kamili, Aliya and family,
I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I know this is a very sad and difficult time for you and your family. I never had the pleasure of meeting your Dad but felt as if I knew him. I know he was a great man, husband, father and grandfather. You have my deepest sympathy and may he and Gwen, together again, rest in peace. All my love and prayers.❤

Doc was a beautiful human whose heart was as big as all outdoors. He and Gwen were our friends that we saw too infrequently. We loved them both. Please accept our deep sympathy. May his beloved children and grandsons be consoled by memories of joyful times together.
