D. Austin Jones

SALISBURY and CAMBRIDGE — D. Austin Jones, 74, of Salisbury and Cambridge died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at Dorchester General Hospital.

Born on May 3, 1937, in Cambridge, he was the son of the late David H. Jones and Mabel Brinsfield Jones.

Austin was a graduate of Cambridge High School, class of 1955. He then attended the University of Maryland.

Austin moved to Racine, Wis., and was an accountant/estimator with Western Publishing, where he worked for 40 years.

On Feb. 14, 1967, he married the former Shirley Creighton. They were remarried just this year on Feb. 14.

Their remarriage brought them both much love and happiness.

His daughter and granddaughter, Heather and Sophia, were the love of his life. His son-in-law was also his best football buddy whom he loved dearly.

After retirement, he returned to Cambridge.

Austin was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge.

He was extremely proud of being a Mason of 50 years with the Masonic Temple Cambridge Lodge, No. 66, A.F and A.M. Austin was also a member of the American Legion Post #91.

Surviving Austin along with his wife, Shirley Creighton Jones, is a daughter, Heather Lawhead and her husband, Kelly; a granddaughter, Sophia Lawhead; an aunt, Ann Brooks; numerous cousins, especially Gorton McWilliams Jr. and Sam McWilliams; and many local friends, especially Ward and Mary Slacum and Wisconsin friends Dawn and Sadie. He will be sadly missed by his little buddy "Mr. Peabody."

Preceding him in death along with his parents was a special cousin, Dr. Donald McWilliams.

A funeral and Masonic service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home PA, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Sam McWilliams and members of the Masonic lodge. Burial will be held privately at a later date in East New Market Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Austin's memory to The Shriners Children's Hospital, Shriners International Headquarters, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Fla. 33607; Dorchester County Humane Society, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, Md. 21613; or The Boys State Program of the American Legion Post #91, PO Box 70, Cambridge, Md. 21613.
