Dale Bertholf

Please accept my condolences to the Bertholf family.

Both Dale & Betty had a profound influence of my life as well as the lives of others. Their willingness to take care of not only their own grandchildren but children of others was commendable. Their help was greatly appreciated by my Mother who more than once mentioned that she would not have known what to do without them helping.

Dale was truly a one of kind character. Saying one is grateful for the fishing trips to Minnesota would be an understatement. I’ll never forget the little things like making paper airplanes and rubber band “tractors” or taking the time to teach us how to play the Carams board. You see, Dale could make an event out of the smallest of things. Take for example putting an ice cube in a glass of juice. First you mix up the orange juice concentrate with warm water to facilitate melting. When poured, you leave just enough space for the addition of one ice cube. Then you must make the sound of an iceberg being dropped into the sea while releasing the cube into the glass. We would always wonder; did he leave enough room in the glass for the ice? He never failed though, the juice would rise to the top, no room left, none spelt, and we kids would have to slurp some off before being able to pick up the glass.

Both Dale and Betty were like the glass willing to receive another challenge without spilling. Their love for others knew no bounds. Those who knew them were truly blessed and they will be missed by many.

When I think of my own late father, I often remember the life-long friendship Dale and he shared, as well as our two families' friendship. My mother regrets that she can't be at Dale's funeral. You are in all of our thoughts.

I am so saddened to hear of Dale's passing. I know that he has been suffering for some time but he is such a strong willed man. He has always had kind words for everyone he meets. He always is so encouraging for others. He is such a blessing and him and Betty were such a joy to know and work for. They have so many people who loved both of them. It has been really hard since Dale, Betty and Marlene moved to Omaha away from the friends and co-workers they had in Wichita. We all love Dale very much and are so happy that he will be with his lovely wife Betty now. Now Marlene, you can rest, you can finally rest, bless your soul, you gave up so much to take care of your folks for all these years. I know it is hard losing them because they were both so precious. Thank you for letting me be a part of their lives and of yours. I sure miss talking to you, but I know my depressing situation was getting you down. I still think about you all and pray that everything is going well and the way that you wanted it to go. When things settle down and your ready to talk again please contact me. Dale will be so missed but I am glad that he is not suffering and that he is upstairs watching out for me and everyone else. He had such a kind heart. Love to all of Dale's family and may you all find peace in remembering all the wonderful times he got to have, Remember most of all the cabin and fishing that he loved so passionately.
