Years ago, I was one of Prof. Briggs early bible study students at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor. Today, I can't quite remember how old I was back then, but probably about 11 or 12. He and we, (the mostly silent pre-teen students), would faithfully meet to explore the stories of the Old Testament and the parables of the New. Actually, Dale and Nancy knew of me 'pre-birth' as our families were good friends even then. We continued to cross paths as both families built homes and moved to Earhart back in the early 1970's. That was just after Huron River Parkway and Huron High School were newly opened. Even as recently as last year, our families would wave to each from our houses as we walked the neighborhood. Dale would drop off flowers on special occasions. Some were serendipity like a beautiful summer evening when perhaps I was home on a visit. Others were more somber like the time when my own father died of a brain tumor. Dale let you know he was thinking of you. More than that, he let you know he was thinking the best for you. Prof Briggs, you will always be in my heart, my memory and one of our family's true blessings. Go Blue... and may the lives you touched be forever in celebration of your life. So well lived. So well remembered.

Dear Mrs. Briggs and Family:
I am so fortunate to have known Dale Briggs. I witnessed a true angel on earth as he ministered in so many ways to the Veterans at the Ann Arbor VA. I know that he not only gave of himself, but to the staff and patients he provided great comfort to. I couldn't count high enough to reach the number of flowers he has so thoughtfully given to this facility. I cannot convey to you how much he was truly appreciated. Heaven certainly has a new angel. Many blessings to you. Nancy Dermyer

I am an RN and used to work on the MICU at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital. I got to know Dale very well. He prayed with numerous patients and their family members. He also opened his home to MANY family members of patients. He used to bring beautiful flowers to the nursing stations. Dale always had a smile on his face. I miss him and am very, very saddened to hear of this. I have no doubt in my mind that he has a special place in Heaven.

I want to offer my deepest sympathies to your family. Professor Briggs was always such a delight, I looked forward every Monday to see what flowers would be in our office. I will always remember when he would stop by to chat and when asked how are you today, his reply "better then yesterday". Always a smile, he will be missed. Rest in Paradise Professor Briggs.

I want to offer my condolences to the family of Professor Briggs, and add my name to the list of grateful students he not only taught but mentored by his character and example. Over forty years ago Professor Briggs served as my student advisor and was an immense help as I formulated my path forward. Looking back I've come to realize and appreciate the special people God has placed in my path; Professor Briggs was certainly one of them.

To the Family of Professor Briggs,
I came to know Dale as a student in the Chemical Engineering Program at the University of Michigan. Professor Briggs was different than the other Professors, he had more life experience and connected with the students in a refreshing way. His teaching was through and straight forward and we learned the content along with tidbits of real engineering life thrown in. Teachers give so much and touch many lives in ways they don't know. I wouldn't have made it through the very difficult learning environment at the UM without Professor Briggs. My thoughts are with the family in remembering and celebrating his life. Michael Redick

He was thoughtful and encouraging in his guidance, and made every meeting I has with him an enriching experience. I still remember warmly the big hug I received from him on stage, when I received my diploma. He started me off on a wonderful career path, and I am forever grateful. Rest in peace, Professor Briggs. My warmest condolences to his family. Chen Wang (Springfield, VA)

I am so sad to hear that one of our most loyal music patrons and participants has left the concert hall. I feel Dale's absence already, each time I go to work on a concert at the University of Michigan's School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Dale was such a joy to see and interact with, and he was so dedicated to the school and all of its endeavors, whether as a casual audience member or as a cognate on a dissertation committee. His kindness and generosity were unbounded, and he became a dear friend over the years as he graced us at each concert. I tipped his usual chair in Britton Recital Hall this weekend in his memory. Dale, that will always be your seat in the house. Nancy, I feel deeply for your loss, and I sincerely hope to see you at future shows. The hall feels empty without you two there. Sending much love your way.

Nancy,
Dale was such a wonderful friend and colleague. The positive attitude he brought to the department always cheery and never speaking ill of anyone provided a role model for others to follow. His research, teaching, and service were topnotch, and he always provided a helping hand when asked. Finally, the flowers that he distributed around the university were a beautiful reminder of the happiness one can find in life through service to others. We will miss the daily joy Dale gave us but his memory will help us all live much better lives.

There are special people in the world who have no idea what a gift they are to others. Dale Briggs brought us flowers at Huron Valley Tennis Club every week for years, He brought us the sunshine of his smile and a sweet countenance and word, even when he was sick. It always was a pleasure to greet him and to exchange a kindness. He always brought cheer to our busy desk. He leaves a legacy of compassion and kindness, in his thoughtful ways, that is unparalleled. To Nancy and family, my deepest condolences on the loss of Dale. You, Nancy, are an inspiration to us, too. See you at the club on your workout days and play days! With great respect and affection. Rosie

Dear Nancy,
I used to get annoyed at Dale (just a little), because he was very fond of reminding me that every Nov 27th we were BOTH a little older. But he enjoyed our being "date-brothers," and that was OK.
Your support of our students, their striving to improve, to become the artists they were meant to be---all of this means so much to all of them, and to their teachers.us! Dale always, always had an encouraging, positive word for every performer, and I can tell you---that's precisely what we all need when we're super-vulnerable right after a concert.
When you're able, I hope we may see you keeping that Briggs tradition alive, spending time listening to our music, spreading positive energy---just as Dale always did---to all of us.
My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
Dale R. Leslie

"How are you, Dale." "Much better" was his standard reply. I asked him, "Have you been sick?" (Before his recent illness.) He'd say, "No, but the good Lord willing, I'm a much better person than I was the day before." What faith!
