Dale Clingerman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 8, 2013.
SOUTH PARIS - Dale H. Clingerman, 58, son of Betty Simpson and Dale Hemmington Clingerman, died unexpectedly Jan. 5, 2013, at his home. Born June 27, 1954, in Connellsville, Pa., moving to Maine shortly thereafter, he spent most of his life in the Bangor/Orono area before moving to South Paris two years ago.

He graduated from Bangor High School and New England School of Communications, and also attended Husson University. He was employed by Evans and Viner's shoe factories, but was most passionate about his job as a master control operator for WABI-TV and union shop steward. For three years, he played the role of "Pong," WABI's mascot. He also played and coached the men's softball league. More recently, he was a self-employed newspaper carrier for the Bangor Daily News. He was an avid NASCAR and New England Patriots fan, and loved classic rock. Dale was easygoing, always ready with a friendly "hello" and had a knack for making people smile and laugh. He was never seen without his beloved dog, Tobie.

Dale is survived by his fiancee, Lori Lindsay; son, Dale A. Clingerman; daughters, Joelle K. Clingerman and Lora Beth Clingerman; Aunt Jean; and Aunt Ruth-Ann.

Visiting hours will be held 2-4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 45 Main St., South Paris. Dale wanted people to love one another. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local food pantries. Online condolences may be shared with his family at www.chandlerfunerals.com.

The weather turned unusually clear and dry during Christmas week of 2011 and I was able to get to Falls Village Ct to the childhood home of his fiancée Lori for a couple days. It just so happened that we were all free to gather there for the Holiday for the first time since I could remember. I had not heard from Lori in a while and was surprised to hear she was engaged and was happy that she had found someone after all this time. On first impression one could be forgiven for mistaking Dale for a back woods guy but it turns out he was an electronics techy...my kind of guy. I took to this warm, soft spoken guy with ease. When I found out what happened I thought it was the cruelest thing I'd ever heard of? Looking back it seems almost as if he had brought that Christmas 2011 weather with him making the whole thing possible. Thanks Dale.

Here's a picture of Dale, myself, Darlene Russell and Steve Ayer with Connie Chung in Bangor. Thought I'd share...

Just learned of Dale's passing tonight. He was one of my classmates from my NESCom Class of '86 (known back then as the New England School of Broadcasting). Dale was 12-13 years older than most of us other "NESBies," and a some of us nicknamed him "Dad." He was a very easygoing guy and a lot of fun. I hadn't seen him in many years, but he'll be missed. R.I.P. Dale, wherever you are...

So sorry to hear about Dale's passing. I haven't seen him in many many years, but he was my very first boyfriend, back when he used to ride in clothes dryers at the laundrymart and he gave me my first kiss at Hersey Retreat. Fond memories of a really nice person.

We would like Dale's family to know what a special friend he was to our two dogs. They knew to expect biscuits when they saw him and Tobie, and they still look carefully whenever a vehicle slows down in our neighborhood hoping treats will come flying out of it. We will all remember Dale's kindness. Our sincere sympathies to all his loved ones.

Joelle and Lora
I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. He was great fun and always had a fun story to tell when he picked you up from Afterschool or summer camp. Of course I always had the bike story, right Joelle?
You will both remain in my thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with Dale's family at this difficult time. We knew each other in his WABI days when he would call my radio station on a daily basis. Nice man. And he raised a very special daughter who I'm thrilled to have as a part of my family. Rest in peace, Dale.
