Dale Dahl Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 27, 2017.

Dale Curtis Dahl, age 85 of Monticello, passed away on March 23, 2017.  Memorial services will be Saturday May 13, 2017 at 2 pm at the Community United Methodist Church, 9225 Jason Avenue NE, Monticello.  Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.

The world was blessed with my birth on March 31, 1932.  From that time forward, the world would be forever changed.  Proud parents were Helmer and Louise (Kopp) Dahl, and big brother Roland.  I attended Grant grade school in Watertown, SD, and was a graduate of Watertown High School in 1950.  I worked in various “jobs”;  cutting grass at the cemetery, being a shoe-shine boy, a ticket taker and usher at the local movie theater.  After the age of 12, I bought my own clothes and provided my own spending money.

I went to SDSU at Vermillion, dropped out mid-year and then started again at SD State.  I joined the US Army, was trained as a cryptanalyst in intelligence and spent two years on St Lawrence Island in Alaska.  After an honorable discharge, I returned to SD State at Brookings in the spring of 1956.  I took a course where I met a cute little girl named Rosemary.  She set her sights on me…I didn’t have a chance.  We were married on January 11, 1957 in the little town of White, SD.  We both received degrees and in 1959 I went to the University of Minnesota, where I pursued my PhD which I obtained in 1964.  I taught, did research, wrote a couple of books, and authored/co-authored many journal and law review articles.  After 39 years, I retired from my career as a professor of economics and adjunct professor of law at the University of Minnesota Law School.

We were blessed with five children;  Mary (Curt) Swanson, Steve (Janelle),  Nancy Walker, Cathleen, James (Lisa);  17 grandchildren;  5 great grandchildren.  Rosie and I are both very proud of them, their families, their accomplishments and their contributions to society.  We look back at 60 years of marriage with surprise and great pleasure.  I have enjoyed many friends from poker, the U of M, hunting, fishing, golf, bowling, Rotary and church.  I consider myself a lucky man.  I passed quietly from this earthly life on March 23, 2017, surrounded by my family.  I am survived by loving family, nieces and nephews, and my beloved sister-in-law Betty (Blair) Dahl.

Rest in peace my dear professor, I always remember you and love you. I am sorry I was informed so late that you left this world. Thanks for everything. You played a very significant role in everything I succeeded.
