I was one of the few female members of the Hard Scrabble Club and knew Dale as a great nnewspaper advertising man. I worked at the Indianapolis News from 1971 until it was folded into the
Star, and then was theater critic for the Star until I retired in 2002. Dale had great memories and great stories to tell. As a member of "The Greatest Generation he served in North Africa at the same time my husband did, and we had lots to connect on. Plus, I'm a graduate of UT Austin, so we had Texas together too. I will miss him.

Please accept my sympathy on the loss of your father. Dale was most helpful in updating information on CCHS Class of 1941 on the CCHS Alumni Association website, and as its webmaster I had several interesting conversations with him.

To the Family of Mr. Gillespie: We offer you our deepest condolences and sympathy for your loss. Although we did not know Mr. Gillespie, we can empathize with your loss as we all have lost someone in death. We can rejoice that our last enemy death will itself be destroyed. 1Cor 16:26 Death disrupts and destroys. We can look forward to life without end by means of the resurrection guaranteed by Jesus' resurrection. Acts 17:31, He will call for those in the memorial tomb in the last day as he said in Jo 5:28,29, Jo11:25
Jesus wept when he was on his way to awaken his friend Lazarus from the sleep of death; thus, he knew how death affects us miserably. Soon our tears, pain and sorrow will be no more and we can enjoy life the way it was meant to be enjoyed. God promises and He will fulfill. Titus 1:2 May the memories you enjoy of Mr. Gillespie bring you comfort. Sincerely, Mr. and Mrs. George James

"As a young college graduate in 1973, I worked with Dale at the Indianapolis Star & News as an Account Executive in Retail Advertising for six years. Dale was not only an exceptional employee, he was a terrific role model for a young man like myself starting work in the newspaper industry. We went to lunch on many occasions and shared our mutual interests in baseball and the Chicage Cubs. Dale and his family are in my thoughts and prayers." Mike Mitchum (Glendale, Arizona)
