Dale Bernhardt Huebner, 74, of Carroll died Saturday, July 24,2010 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 am Thursday, July 29, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Casket bearers were Walter Huebner, Dennis Huebner, Roger Kuhlman, Tom Sullivan, Lyle Grell, George Crouse, and Kenneth Crouse. Burial was in Ferguson Cemetery at Lake View. Visitation was at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where a prayer service was held at 7:00 P.M. The casket was moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Jan Hoff and the soloist will be Betty Jean Olerich.

A son of Ben and Edna Huebner, he was born July 1, 1936 in Denison, Iowa and graduated from Denison High School. Dale married Darla Hamer in Schleswig, Ia. After losing his wife Darla he married Mary Ellen Geary on September 21, 1968 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. Dale worked his first job with his father at Huebner Trucking, and then drove for Swift. Dale went to work for Crouse Cartage Company in 1964 and retired from CCC in 1986, taking early retirement due to health reasons. During his employment with Crouse, Dale received numerous awards, one for driving 2.2 million miles with no accidents or citations, one for recognition of exceptional courage in aiding in the rescue and survival of a truck driver found in an extremely cold and incoherent condition in his unheated truck in 1982. Dale was one of 275 special drivers in the nation who drove under a waiver because of a physical handicap due to loss of his left leg in 1976.

Survivors include his five daughters: Brenda Bach and her husband Gary of Elgin, Illinois, Darsi Huebner and her husband Randy Garner of Thornton Colorado, Becky Sulzmann and her husband Tom of Sleepy Hollow, Illinois. Beth Huebner-Starman and her husband Jerry of Carroll, and Denise Salazar of Illinois; eight grandchildren: Nicholas Fisher, Lisha Huebner, Damon Garner, Desiree Sulzmann, Dustin Huebner, Matteo Salazar, and Jessica and Kathy Grimmette; four great grandchildren: Shiya Garcia, Tasia Garner, Bria Fisher, and Brenden Fisher; two sisters: Sally Sullivan and Marlys Grell and her husband Lyle of Colorado; brothers in-law William Geary and his wife Lana, Ron Geary and his wife Sandy, David Geary, Dale Rench; sisters-in-law: Darlene Kluver and her husband Leroy, Shirley Perez and her husband Robert, and Deanna Bozeman and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Huebner was preceded in death by his first wife Darla, his wife Mary Ellen, his father Ben Huebner, his mother Edna Else, his stepfather George Else, his brother Morelle Else his brother- in –law Tom Sullivan, and sister-in-law Jeanette Rench.
