Daniel “Dan” Louis Adams, 74, of Moline IL passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at home. He was born on February 3, 1949 in Detroit, MI to Clarence Adams and Thelma Irby (Blankenship). He married Betty Lou Andereck on March 15, 1968. She passed away in August 2019.
He was a retired Business Manager of Laborer’s Local 309, Rock Island. He was a 54 year member of the Local as a field representative, construction worker and a concrete finisher. He also served the community as Precinct Committeeman for Moline and Rock Island County Building Commissions board as well as serving on many boards and committees. He was chairman of the Moline Housing Authority. He proudly fought for workers rights as Chairmen of Laborer’s Health & Welfare, Great Plains District Council, and Trustee for Central Laborers district fund. He founded the Northern Iowa/Illinois Annuity Fund as well as the Quad Cities Foundation for Fair Contracting. He was instrumental in creating a PSA (power station agreement) at the Nuclear Power Plant. He was inducted into the Quad City Federation of Laborer AFL-CIO Hall of Fame. He also helped establish the Hero Street Monument Committee.
He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, camping, fishing, hunting and bowling. He was a proud Marine. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias, Milan, IL. He enjoyed weekly family dinners surrounded by his family. He took great pride in all of the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He loved watching them play sports, ride bikes, or play at the house.
He is survived by his three sons: Lonnie Adams, Daniel (Lonetta Neeley) Adams, Jr., and David (Melanie) Adams. Grandchildren include: Justin Adams, David (Crystal) Adams, Dylan (Bailey Heath) Adams, Megan (Tyler Frazee) Adams and Alex Anderson. Great grandchildren include: Kyliegh Adams, Lanie Adams, Cory Adams, Kira Adams and Ryder Adams. He is also survived by his sister Carrol (Jesse) Diaz and brother Paul Junior Wright. He had many nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss him terribly.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Betty Adams, his parents, bonus-dad Hickman (Buck) Blankenship and two brothers: David L Davis and Jacob Adams.
In Lieu of flowers, Dan asked for donations to the AML Cancer Research Fund in honor of his wife Betty.
Visitation will be held at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a funeral service to begin at 6 p.m. Interment of ashes for Dan and Betty will be at a later date on the Arsenal, Rock Island, with Military honors.
