I worked as a stenographer/secretary from 1966 to 1970. He was kind and honest to a fault. I have many fond memories of my years working in the Governor's Office. I remember him sitting on the edge of my desk, dictating a letter, as I typed it on my IBM ball electric typewriter. I remember the Evans' boys and their Irish Wolfhound visiting their Dad sometimes at lunch. Thankfully, I have many mementos from those years, pictures, letters, campaign pins, etc. I enjoyed dinners and gatherings at the Mansion as well. Dan was a family man as well as a great governor, and was respected by Republicans and Democrats. I remember he would not tolerate "mud-slinging by any of his associates. He was truly a "Straight Arrow."

This may seem minute to the family but a really big deal to a 10 year old girl in 1966. I was chosen to sit in the governors chair as my Campfire group was touring the capitol. I felt so honored to be chosen. Two years later my family went to the Tacoma Mall the year it opened. We saw Governor Evans there and shook his hand. That was so memorable to my dad,mom and 4 sisters. My husband of 43 years said to me, I shared a beer with him in Ellensburg at a Republican mainstream conference.
We are sorry for your loss and know the beautiful memories of him will sustain you. God bless you all. Javier and MaryKay Figueroa

I´ll dearly miss Governor Dan Evans who was instrumental in shaping my own life. I was 10 years old when Dan first became governor and remember him being a visionary who conducted himself as a leader with true integrity and can only hope that someday our society will be gifted another person as great as Dan. Thank you, sir, from the bottom of my heart.
