Dan Picciotto Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 14, 2025.
Dan Victor Picciotto was born in 1975 in Canada and moved to Los Angeles with his parents and brother as a young child. As a boy he developed wonderful, deep friendships with a core group of people who remained his life-long friends. He also found a love of basketball and travel.
Dan attended Castle Heights Elementary School, Palms Middle School and the Humanities Magnet at Hamilton High School where he excelled in his academic pursuits. He spent his childhood laughing and playing basketball with his brother Gil, traveling with his mother Marie and playing with his dad Maurice. Stories of Dan's teenage years-working as a pharmacy stock boy, hanging out at Rancho Park, entertaining hijinks with his friends-still bring everyone well-deserved belly laughs.
Dan remained in California to receive his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley where he received an undergraduate degree in Economics in 1997. Upon graduating he moved back to Los Angeles to work as a Research Analyst in the family office of David Murdock, the CEO of Dole Food Company.
Combining his interests in seeing the world, meeting new people and continuing his studies, Dan moved to New York City in 2001 to attend NYU Stern's full-time MBA program. While there he once again made life-long friends with his fellow students. While receiving his MBA, Dan also earned his CFA certification. After graduating, Dan worked at Arnhold & Bleichroeder before beginning a long and distinguished career at Standard & Poor's, where he became a Managing Director.
Dan and I met and began dating in 2005. We explored NYC and various parts of the world together in our travels - visiting friends, families and other countries. I quickly came to see that Dan was not only intelligent and kind, but also surrounded by an incredible group of loyal and loving friends who welcomed me with open arms.
In 2010, we moved to Hoboken, NJ, just before the birth of our first son, Ethan. We soon realized there was no need to move to the suburbs - we had found a true community in Hoboken - one that reflected Dan's values of friendship, warmth, and connection. Our family was soon complete with the arrival of Andrew in 2013.
Together we spent the next 15 years raising our boys and creating memories together. Even with a distinguished career of almost 20 years at Standard & Poor's, nothing brought Dan more joy or fulfillment than being a father to our two amazing children. They brought out the best in him and embody all of his best qualities and traits. Dan was his silliest and funniest when performing stuffed animal puppet shows for them and their friends, chasing them through the halls and stairways of our condo building, coaching their basketball teams, playing and teaching them games and watching classic comedy movies with them. He introduced them to the music he enjoyed, his favorite food spots in Los Angeles and the LA Lakers. Ethan's sense of humor and calm approach to accomplishing his high-level goals, Andrew's imagination, intense focus and love of games- so much of who they are comes from Dan.
Dan was an incredibly loving and generous father, son, brother, husband, friend and co-worker. He was a great listener who cared so deeply about the people he loved and was loved back by them all.
Dan is survived by his wife Jennifer, our sons Ethan and Andrew, his parents Maurice and Marie Picciotto, his brother Gil (with Amelia, Sam and Charlie) and many beloved cousins, aunts, uncles and in-laws who live near and far. He is also survived by the incredible community of friends who made his life so rich. Together I look forward to keeping his memory alive to honor him, and for our amazing two children. We will miss him so much, forever.
In honor of Dan, and in support of Ethan and Andrew's continued growth and education, we welcome donations in his memory to two organizations close to our hearts:
