I met Dana Hamel when I was director of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, later named the Hamel Center for Undergraduate Research thanks to his most generous endowment established to support undergraduates to collaborate with faculty members. His endowment was absolutely instrumental to the growth of the program and enabled the Center to support many more students. Several generations of students have benefited from a Hamel-supported research experience that contributed to their intellectual growth, facilitated their entrance into graduate school and prepared them for their careers. Dana was truly interested in the students who benefited from his philanthropy and often attended the conferences where students presented the results of their research. He is a wonderful role model for all of us.

Through the many years of working together as directors at the UNH Foundation, I cherished his friendship, his sound judgment and unflagging great sense of humor. His sensible advice and great generosity propelled the Foundation through its early years of growth and made it what it is today. UNH owes him the most incredible debt of gratitude.

Nampa was truly a one of a kind soul. The second I met him, we had an instant connection. Through talking about art, living in Boston, and of course, when I was going to grab us a pair of Celtics tickets from the firm I work for, we always had something to talk about, laugh about. Every time I went up to New Hampshire to spend the weekend with Bradley, we always made time to see his Nampa no matter what the plans were and knowing how close he is with his family is one of the many reasons why I love him, and I know that amazing family connection stems from Nampa himself. Hearing of all of his amazing life stories and travel was fascinating, you would never get bored hearing about them all. Getting to know him these last four years has truly been a gift, and I will always consider him family to me. I will miss my "bestie" dearly, and I know he is looking down on his family with a huge smile, proud of each and every one of you.

Dana you were a mentor and friend. Your kindness knew no bounds, and I am so blessed to have been able to learn so much from our many visits. You were a true leader and visionary, one who's footsteps are worth following. Thank you for your greatest gift, your time. I will always cherish the times we had. My sincerest condolences to all the family, may the hurt be surpassed by knowledge that Dana's life enriched so many others. He was quite a man.
