Daniel Armijo Obituary

Published by East Bay Times from Mar. 7 to Mar. 9, 2021.
Daniel Armijo
February 1, 1937 - March 2, 2021
Resident of Danville, CA
Danny passed away in his sleep after a brief, but aggressive and rare blood cancer called Burkitt Lymphoma. He married the love of his life, Gloria Armijo, on March 22, 1980, and they were married 35 years before Gloria's passing in 2015. They made Danville their home since 1988.
Danny was born in Santiago, Chile and came to the U.S. at the age of 25. He became a U.S. citizen in 1974. He had a special place in the hearts of his American family and leaves behind Stepdaughter Kelly Montes (Joe), grandchildren Christopher Johnson (Kimberli) and JaNae Montes (Solo), and great grandchildren Cali Johnson and Kai Johnson; Stepdaughter Chris Colunga, grandchildren Chase Ortega (Tori), Dane Colunga (Becca), and Paris Colunga (Josh); and Stepson Walter Miller and grandson Dominic Miller.
His Chilean family includes his sisters whom he was very close to, Mireya Armijo Meza, Genoveva Armijo Meza and Nancy Armijo Meza, as well as many nieces, nephews, and grands. His nephew, Alejo Godoy, lived with Danny & Gloria for several years while attending college and his sisters Mireya and Nancy traveled to the U.S. over the years. Danny traveled to Chile very often to visit his family and he never forgot his origins, including helping his Chilean family as needed.
Danny was beloved by the dance community, and he had a passion for Argentine Tango. He was known to be an excellent dancer and a gentleman. When the pandemic hit and dance studios closed, he took to Zoom for dance classes. He was an avid walker, a family man, and was respected and admired by all. He had a certain charm and an easy smile. Family was always a priority, and he (and Gloria) would always attend grandchildren's graduations, sporting events, and life events, always being the cheerleaders in their lives. The family takes comfort in knowing Danny and the love of his life are together again, dancing among the stars.
Respecting his wishes, there will be no service held.

Hi Kelly! I am Ivania, Nancy's granddaughter. She hadn't had the chance to write to you before. Today is a special day for my grandmother and Talo's family in Chile. We have remembered him a lot and his departure still hurts us. We spent the whole day remembering anecdotes and conversations. We send you a hug in the hope that they are well and that you can tell everyone how much we love Gloria and Talo. We will always remember them.

Danny was such a nice man and gentleman. He and Gloria would go out of their way to be so nice to me. I was honored that I was on Gloria's guest list for her memorial at Scotts in Walnut Creek. I will never forget that I was remembered in such a special way as her and Danny are now. She made him promise to continue to dance and I know that he found great happiness in that. Together again in eternity I wish you love.

Talo (his childhood nickname, which I called him) was the kindest, most loyal, virtuous, fun-loving, energetic, and clean-living friend, dance partner, and companion, with a remarkable untutored intelligence, youthful and loving spirit, and a modesty that kept his many virtues hidden from lesser souls.

Loving to family, friends, animals, and little children. My grandchildren adored him and loved nothing better than playing with him.

My friend may you rest in heavenly peace. Although it’s been awhile since we’ve seen each other, I will always remember our dances at Two Left Feet where we met.

My sweet Grandpa-
You were the epitome of a gentleman. I feel so blessed that we grew much closer in these last few years. I will miss the way you bring a feeling of ease and comfort to me and everyone in our family. I will miss your birthday calls, your wonderful stories, and most of all, your company. Please give grandma a hug for me. I love you forever and I’ll miss you always. Xoxoxo

Danny was a wonderful brother-in-law. He was always willing to help if needed. He also was an excellent husband to my sister, Gloria, for 35 years. In Gloria's last days she was in home hospice with Danny as her caretaker. He would sleep on the couch next to her hospital bed. God bless him and keep him.

Sr. Daniel as my family knew him, was a kind, generous, and thoughtful man. Frankly, I admired his energy and enthusiasm. Sr. Daniel was nearly twice my age (43), yet you would never have guessed this. He was so energetic and sprightly. I wouldn't have guessed more than 65. I'd find myself complaining about how tired I am and Sr. Daniel would be telling me about how he was out dancing the night before.

I always enjoyed my conversations with Sr. Daniel. We'd talk about life in each other's native countries. He being from Chile and I from Colombia, we had many things to discuss and could relate on many levels. Our conversations would often start in English and at some point transition to Spanish, the language I preferred to speak when talking with Daniel.

Last I saw Daniel, we took a short walk through his old neighborhood here in Brookview. He reminisced about when he moved to Shady Creek Place and how he saw the neighborhood develop. He spoke of neighbors that had been kind to him, his beloved wife Gloria, and the time they spent enjoying the pretty view of the hillside from their rear patio. It was clear Sr. Daniel had many beautiful memories of his life here on Shady Creek with Gloria.

I was very shocked and saddened to hear of his passing, and it is clear that he was deeply loved by his family and friends. I can understand why, despite only knowing him for a couple of years. I take comfort in knowing that he really enjoyed life and his family, and that he is now with his beloved wife Gloria, dancing together in heaven.

I send my deepest sympathies to Sr. Daniel's family and friends. In the words of Abraham Lincoln "I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memories of the loved and lost....."

May you rest in eternal peace Sr. Daniel. Que dios te bendiga....

He was a neighborhood friend who we will miss. He enjoyed our infrequent walks and our dog Bogey. Guess I'll need to make a note on my Christmas card file card. We hold fond memories of Danny.
