Daniel Artola Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 10, 2011.
DANIEL ARTOLA
1964-2011
Dan Artola, age 47, passed away in Montreal on September 3 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Virginia Myles, his best friend and soulmate of nearly 30 years, and the father of two wonderful and cherished sons, Ryan and Eric, his proudest accomplishments. Dan was never happier than when he was with Virginia, Ryan and Eric.
He was the devoted son of Carmen and Miguel Artola; dear brother of Carlos, brother-in-law of Lindsey, and uncle of Isabela and Sophia; and beloved grandson of his abuela, Constance Torreiro. He will be deeply missed by his in-laws, Tom and Wendy Myles, sister-in-law Elizabeth, her husband Stephen Dinsmore and nephew and niece Evan and Meghan. He also leaves behind a large extended family and many great friends.
After graduating with a BEng in civil engineering from Concordia University in 1987, Dan completed his law degree at the University of Ottawa in 1992, then returned to Montreal and established a very successful career in patent law and intellectual property. Since 2005 he was a partner at Ogilvy Renault, now Norton Rose OR. He was very proud of having acted for a large number of clients, both large and small, and to have litigated a number of highly complex patent cases.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Montreal General and Royal Victoria Hospitals for their attentive care over the last 18 months. Special thanks to Drs Alcindor, Chaput, Freeman, Meguerditchian, and nurse Judy Hughes.
A memorial service for Dan will take place on Friday, September 16 at 10 a.m. at Loyola Chapel, Concordia University, Loyola Campus, 7141 Sherbrooke Street West. A reception will follow at the Côte des Neiges Funeral Center, 4525 chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Visitation will take place at the Côte des Neiges Funeral Center, on Tuesday, September 13, and Wednesday, September 14, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. In lieu of flowers, tribute donations in memory of Daniel Artola may be made to the MUHC Foundation ( www.muhcfoundation.com/give_now ). Donations will support treatment and research for abdominal soft tissue sarcomas.

So sorry to all those who were friends and family. I was against Dan on several files over the years and he was always honest and a pleasure to deal with - a very good guy.

Virginia and family--May the road ahead, like the ocean that ebbs and flows, be smooth with few bumps. God needed more light in heaven so he called upon Dan.

Daniel: We worked together, we disagreed at times, you were challenging, thorough and a great lawyer and team player. You will be missed but forever remembered.

Estimada familia, Dear Friends.

Con muchisima tristeza nos hemos enterado del facellimiento de Daniel a tan joven edad y compartimos vuestro dolor en estos momentos dificiles.

I studied with Daniel at Spanish School and remember his laugh and positive attitude. He will certainly be missed.

A Carmen y Miguel particularmente nuestro mas sincero pesame. No hay dolor mas grande que el perder un hijo pero la dignidad con la que vivio toda su vida sera un consuelo para vosotros y los nietos seran la continuacion de su vida en esta tierra.

To Dan's wife , children and brother our deepest condoleances. May looking back in memory help you comfort you tomorrow.

Con amistad
