Daniel Baldwin

It is with deep grief and immense sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Daniel Baldwin, on January 11, 2025. He died suddenly outside his home in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Dan was an actor, a writer, a lifelong learner, a beloved and revered teacher, an at-home Jeopardy! champion, an incredible storyteller, and a dedicated husband and father.

Over his career, Dan spent 15 years at Brooklyn Tech, where he taught more than 2,500 students. Until the day he passed, students continued to send letters of gratitude and share stories of his lasting impact on their lives.

Dan had a deep, powerful laugh-the kind that made everyone else laugh, too. He was quick with a literary quote or a sarcastic comment. A cinephile with an encyclopedic knowledge of actors and theater history, Dan was also passionate about music-a passion he passed on to all his children, who were raised in a home filled with dancing and the reverberations of his eclectic taste.

Dan loved the beach, the game of pool, and politics. He enjoyed deep conversations about life and purpose, and he loved to share his thoughts, along with the wisdom he gained from hard-fought experiences.

Dan spent 10 wonderful years in retirement in paradise with the love of his life, his wife of nearly 41 years, JoAnn.

Dan lived an extraordinary life and was exceedingly blessed. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, JoAnn, and his children, Gina Baldwin, Nicholas Baldwin, Joseph Baldwin, and Lauren Burton. He is also survived by all of his siblings, many nieces and nephews, and many beloved cousins. He deeply loved his great-nephews Angelo and Nicholas Resciniti, sons of his cherished niece Jennifer and Joseph Resciniti.

He was tragically preceded in death by his beloved niece, Amie; his sister-in-law Rochelle; his sister-in-law Concetta; and his lifelong friend, Dr. Sigmond Miller.

Dan had many "bonus children" he collected over the years, especially through his students, his friends' children, and the close friends of his own children. This includes the children of his friends Laura and Dr. Sig Miller: Wesley and Amanda Miller, Felicia and Eric Michelson, and Jessica Miller, and their children, along with Christina Cowan-Rodriguez, her husband Michael, and son Theodore, and their families.

Although he was taken from us far too soon, in this moment of reflection on his wonderful, love-filled life, we sum up this obituary with a quote from Dan's favorite movie: "Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?"

Rest in peace, Dan Baldwin, the richest man in town.
