COOK, Daniel Carrington A long time resident of Greenwich, CT, died on November 3, 2009, at the age of 101. Born in Waterbury, Connecticut on August 19, 1908, he was the son of the late Clarence Parker Cook and Harriet Carrington Cook. He is predeceased by his wife of 55 years Katharine Skinner Warner Cook of Milton, MA. He is survived by his children Daniel C. Cook, Jr. of Carlisle, MA, Katharine S. Cook of Wickford, RI, Alexander T. Cook of Philadelphia, PA and Christina Bates of Portsmouth, NH, five granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews. Dan was a parishioner of Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord, MA and previously of Christ Episcopal Church in Greenwich, CT where he had been Treasurer and a vestry member. He later served as trustee of the Round Hill Community Church. He graduated from Hotchkiss School and Yale University, class of 1931. He was President of the Field Club, a member of the Round Hill Club and the West Chop Club on Martha's Vineyard. He was also President of the Yale Club of New York City. His business career started as a trainee for Chase Bank in New York which led to managing of a chain of 1,000 moving picture theaters, followed by a move to West Virginia where he became Treasurer of the Kanawha & Hocking Coal Company. During World War II he served as a Navy Lieutenant in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, and later in Newport, RI, where he was in charge of anti-aircraft training. With the war at end he became Treasurer of the Thomas Y. Crowell Company and years later became Treasurer of the Walsh Construction Company which built the St. Lawrence Seaway. Finally, he returned to Wall Street where he managed the financial affairs of the Averill Harriman family trust and foundations for the next 20 years. He will be greatly missed by many family members and friends. A memorial service will be held for Dan at Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord, MA at 1pm on Saturday, November 28, 2009. In lieu of flowers, Dan would want a donation made to either the Audubon Society www.audubon.org or the YMCA of Greenwich www.gwymca.org.
