Daniel Coyner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 1, 2023.
Surrounded by loved ones, Daniel Coyner, 64, went home to his Heavenly Father on April 26th, 2023 after a difficult battle with cancer.

Dan started his college journey as a football player at University of Richmond, and later transferred to Virginia Tech where he received a degree in engineering. Dan was a decisive man, getting married immediately after college and starting his decades long career at United States Gypsum. He showed unwavering commitment to both his immediate and work families for nearly 40 years.

While generally soft-spoken, his love of sports guaranteed a spirited reaction. Whether it was watching games on TV, going out golfing with his work buddies, or coaching his kids football, baseball, and softball games when they were young, he loved it all.

Dan was a man of action; if something needed to be done, you could count on him to do it. This applied not only to the many house projects he worked on over the years, but to his family as well, making sure he was there when they needed him most, exemplifying what it means to be a great father and husband.

Dan is survived by his wife Terry; his son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Carly; his daughter Julia and son-in-law John; and his four siblings, Ruth, Gray, Mike, and Julie. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

Dan was a truly selfless man, and he will be missed immensely by all of those lucky enough to know him.

Service for Dan will be held on Monday May 8th 11 am located at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1301 N La Salle Dr. Chicago, IL. Reception to follow, location to be announced.

Dan was an amazing leader. After Desert Storm I started working as a mechanic in the rock mill. When Dan came to the plant it was just like working for Master Chief again. Dan leads with purpose, pride and passion. 28 years ago, Dan provided me with my first leadership opportunity. God Bless, Rest in peace Leader and friend!

Dan was a mentor and deeply respected by all. He was a family man and took great joy in his family. We celebrated a milestone in Dan´s career with his family. This was the happiest I have ever seen him. His family was so full of love. Terry loved him with ever fiber of her being. Julia and Kenneth showed so much love and respect for him. It was heartwarming. This is a memory I will never forget. Dan will be deeply missed. Our deepest condolences go out to the family.
