DANIS, Daniel Patrick

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Daniel Patrick Danis, a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend who passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, August 12, 2016 at the age of 84 years in Calgary, AB. Daniel is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Annette Danis (nee Rousseau), daughters Jocelyne Sanford (Scott), Caroline Copeland (Neil), Gisele Danis (Royce Chwin), Celine Danis, and his son Daniel Danis (Lisa) and grandchildren Celine, Samantha, Alex, Josh, Matteo and Sophia. Daniel, the eldest of seven children was born in Cornwall, Ontario. He is survived by one brother Grant Danis, four sisters Marie Wright, Suzanne Sawchuck, Nancy Grant, Julie MacKenzie, sister-in-law Joan Danis and several nieces and nephews. Daniel was predeceased by his parents Rene and Genevieve and his brother Roger. Daniel lived a very full life and will be lovingly remembered for his steadfast love of family, his deep faith in God, his tenacious business spirit, volunteer efforts in the community and his many lifelong friends and adventures. He spent his career in the oil and gas industry, running his own companies Apollo Resources and Danis Land Services. In 1955 Daniel graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Arts degree and during that time took home a football championship for the Gee-Gees. Dan cherished his family and took great pride in giving them the best. Daniel and Annette supported the first ever Catholic French Immersion school program in Calgary, believing in the right to be educated in both official languages. Daniel also gave his time to the Knights of Columbus and Pastoral and Spiritual Care. For twelve years, Dan was the chair of the board for the Calgary Latour Native Pastoral Centre hoping to improve the lives of everyone who visited the centre. We would like to thank the amazing and thoughtful care givers at the Providence Care Centre who went above and beyond during Dan's stay. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at Ste. Famille Catholic Church (1719 - 5th Street S.W.) on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Family Graveside will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery.
