Daniel Paul Diaz, 1963-2018. Dan, 54 years young, passed away on Tuesday, April 10th from a short two year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. His life revolved around his wife of 30 years, Tammy, his children Sarah, Katie, and Joshua, his mother Rosemary, sisters Pam, Connie, and Cathy, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and more friends than anyone could count. Dan was and always will be a Kirkwood Missouri "Pioneer". Dan graduated from the University of Central Missouri in 1986. He was a hugely respected member of the pharmaceutical research community. He loved golf, skiing, Cardinal's baseball, college basketball and any happy hour surrounded by sports. Dan loved life and everyone loved Dan. I just learned of Dan's passing from the UCM (CMSU) magazine. I'm very sorry for your loss, and to hear of Dan's battle with ALS. We hung out together in a big group at college, and cheered the Cardinals on to the World Series in 1982. He was such a fun, spirited guy. Rest in Peace, Dan, and prayers for his family.

Pam and family,

I've remembered Danny as the little brother who always enjoyed being part of the social activities or parties that Lou and Rosemary put together for Pam's grade school classmates and for Lou's basketball team in St. Louis. You can always count on Danny to be anywhere, along with his siblings at various times. This I will always remember of this wonderful boy who had grown over the years. My condolences to the whole Diaz clan.

I will always remember Dan as my high school classmate who made people laugh, who never met a stranger, who had the kindest heart, who was completely genuine and authentic, and who was the son of Senor Diaz, my favorite teacher ever. I will never forget the many memories of our high school trip to Mexico led by Senor Diaz. I tell my daughter stories and she wonders if I am exaggerating. I assure her I am not! From brushing teeth on the side walk in a Texas/Mexico border town to a stay over at a questionable motel in Tampico to eating goat cheese with a family in rural Mexico we met randomly on the road Danny became like family to me. I treasure those memories. Keeping Danny's family in my thoughts and prayers.

For most of my career, I worked in research at NCI and FDA. When I left these cozy environs to work in the private sector, I was blessed to land in a CRO with Dan. Despite the many accomplished people in this new team, I found it was usually Dan who could quickly analyze the project, identify goals, serve specific needs and lead us to success (or if not that, understanding) without sacrificing excitement and enjoyment! His incredible joy, spirit and kindness were matched by brilliant insights, flexibility, dedication and creativity! I will be inspired by you forever - my hat is off to you. Peace be with you and family.

I met Dan through tradeshows. Gosh he was always networking. But he wasn't networking because he was trying to drum up business; Dan was networking because he liked people and people like Dan. We're all better for having been part of his network and for Dan being part of our lives.

It fills me with great sadness to read this news about Dan today. We had been corresponding just a few weeks ago. Dan no matter how hard life got for him he never stopped and continued to persevere and live his life to the fullest. I always admired his strength and courage. He was an absolute joy to be around and work with, my deepest sympathies to his family and everyone who love him.

Our deepest sympathy to Tammy & family as well as the rest of the Diaz family. Being from the St. Louis area we have many fond & funny stories and memories of Dan and his family.

Dan always had a great sense of humor. At a party for his Dad (Lou) he was telling stories of growing up and for the longest time always thought his name was "Dammit Son"! So many fun times together.

A special honor for Bert was to be Dan's Confirmation Sponsor, something he'll cherish forever. Our love, thoughts and prayers to all the Diaz family.

I am so sorry to hear about Dan. He was truly an inspiring person. In the short time I knew him while working in the same company he managed to leave a lasting impression on me. Through his struggle with ALS he never let it affect his work, in fact i felt he made it into a force that made him excel even more. I will never forget the beautiful note he wrote to me when I left the company. I am not in the US right now as I recently lost my Dad as well. I send my warmest condolences to the family. The best ones perhaps go to a better world sooner. Kind regards, Swati

So sorry for the loss. Dan was a good friend since our Kirkwood HS days & freshmen basketball where we met. He was very welcoming to me as a new kid to the school & district, and that was part of why he was impactful and a true friend to me. Always with a smile & happy. Great conversationalist. God has called you home. All the discomfort, pain, sorrow, & imperfections of the human body are gone. You have a new body in Christ to go with your soul and be with your Creator. I have no doubt He has you in his arms saying: Well done my good & faithful servant.

Dan, you were way more than a boss, even more than just a mentor, you were an inspiration and friend. I am so sad that you were taken way too early, you have left an indelible mark on so many. There are so many lessons I have learned from you, most have nothing to do with what I do for a living, most are about being a good person and about being passionate about what you do. The world has lost a great person and wish your family peace. I will forever be in your debt. Miss you Danny.

Dan and I met in Boy Scouts with Troop 981 at Westchester. He was an older scout and he and his dad were a mentor to me. We had lots of fun on campouts, hikes, and meetings. Always helpful and cheerful. Was at his Dad's funeral when I paid my respects in my scout uniform as I have been in scouts for 30+ years. He took one look at me and it brought out the biggest smile and memories. Thanks for being a part of my childhood and may you now rest in peace. Prayers to all who Dan touched and to his family.

Dan and I knew each other for years and were Conference Buddies we always attended the same events and always had a ton of laughs at the events- my company tired to buy the company he was working for when he was at Beardsworth and we spent a lot of time together during that time. I always admired Dan and even more so when he became ill... The way he carried on and rose above the challenges life was putting in front of him really made him a hero in my eyes and I respected him even more than previous- if that was possible. He was a gift and he thought me the true meaning of overcoming adversity. He will always be in my thoughts and prayers.
