Daniel William Duty
May 14, 1975 - June 6, 2015
Daniel William Duty, 40, died on June 6, 2015 at Portneuf Medical Center with his wife by his side. He was born to William John and Diane Scott Duty on May 14, 1975 in Cando, ND. In 1985 his family moved to Woodville, OH where he completed elementary school and graduated from high school at Woodmore HS in Elmore, OH in 1993. He earned a BS in aeronautical studies from the University of North Dakota in 2006. During his college years, he was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity where he established numerous life-long friendships.
He married Laura (Feist) Duty on June 3, 2006 in Bismarck, ND. In the following years Daniel supported his wife, Laura, as she navigated her way through her medical education and training. They moved to Pocatello, ID in 2011 where they started their family and where Laura is a pediatrician at the Pocatello Children's Clinic.
Daniel was a proud father of two children, Mariah Dianna, age 3, and Derek Everett, age 20 months. From the time of their births he was a stay-at-home dad. In addition, he spent time doing internet marketing and web design.
Hobbies and special interests included hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, precision shooting, non-fiction reading, and music composition. He also enjoyed watching Fighting Sioux hockey, and he created and maintained a website (www.AllThingsSurvival.com) on which he shared his knowledge and passion for survivalism.
Daniel enjoyed sharing his love for the outdoors and his wealth of knowledge with others. One of the things he was most known for was his sincere generosity towards others. Everyone who knew Daniel has a story of how he graciously helped them.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Laura (Feist) Duty, daughter, Mariah Dianna, and son, Derek Everett of Pocatello, ID; his parents, William John and Diane Scott Duty; and sister, Alisa (Jim) Thomas, all of Denver, CO. He is also survived by nieces, a nephew, aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as numerous friends, whom he considered part of his family. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Marvin Joel and Polly Drafts Scott; paternal grandparents, Harold S. and Dorothy Grolle Duty; and uncle, Gene Duty.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, June 20, at 1 pm at the top of Mink Creek at the Pocatello Pathfinders site. For directions and information about the service, please download the Google document that is available at www.wilksfuneralhome.com.
