Daniel F. Klinar KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Graveside service for Daniel F. Klinar, M.D., 53, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. Dr. Klinar passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013. He was born December 14, 1959, in Regensburg, Germany and grew up in Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Klinar had lived in Kingsport since 1991, where he was an Orthopaedic surgeon with Associated Orthopaedics of Kingsport. Dr. Klinar was a 1977 graduate of Irmo High School and while attending Irmo, he was selected as a participant in the 1976 Shrine Bowl. Dr. Klinar received his undergraduate degree from Davidson College, Davidson, North Carolina, and his medical degree from Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. His post-graduate medical training consisted of an internship and residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Dartmouth, New Hampshire. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Klinar was board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and was a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Tennessee Medical Association. Dr. Klinar was published in the American Journal of Orthopaedics and presented at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the Tennessee Medical Association. He had served as President of Appalachian Orthopaedic Associates for a number of years and was current President of Associated Orthopaedics of Kingsport. Dr. Klinar was held in high esteem by both groups. Dr. Klinar enjoyed most sports, but had a special fondness for baseball and had served as team doctor for the Kingsport Mets for the past several years, sometimes traveling to their spring training facility in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He and son William traveled to as many major league parks on the East coast as time allowed each summer. Additionally, he was an active parishioner of St. Dominic Catholic Church. Dr. Klinar is survived by his son, William Wallis Klinar; parents, Dr. Karl Louis and Helen Margaret Klinar of Columbia, South Carolina; siblings, Dr. Karl Stephen (Kristina) Klinar and Michael Raymond Klinar both of Columbia, South Carolina, Kathleen Mary Klinar of Goose Creek, South Carolina, and Jeffrey David (Mary Beth) Klinar of Columbia, South Carolina; special friend, Dr. Page Mayo of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved English bulldog, Mason. On behalf of the Davidson Wildcats in the Class of 81, I want to offer these reflective thoughts about Dan, who as an offensive lineman was responsible for me having some success as a running back. To me, Dan was Mr. Consistent. He could always be counted on to give his best effort to get the job done. I always remember Dan being in the lineup even as we joined with teammates in the classes of 78, 79 and 80. Never a vociferous person but someone who you knew was on your team and you were glad that he was.

I read Dan's obituary today and it seemed that he elicited the same response from his associates and the patients that he had as an orthopedic surgeon. His patients recognized the special care and attention he gave to them. This doesn't surprise any of us who played with Dan. After all, it was his best and he never gave any less.

My parents, Clyde and Frances Campbell of Bristol, were both patients of Dr. Klinar and adored him! So much so that Daddy refused treatment in Bristol a few years ago for a femur fracture because "no one was touching" him except his doctor! Dr. Klinar, through his competence and care, instilled that kind of trust and loyalty among his patients. Our condolences are with his family, friends, associates, and patients.
