Dear Macchia Family,
I did not know Dan passed away. I went to high school with him at Suffolk Lutheran and shared many good memories. It was very sad to hear the news and I want to wish you my condolonces.

Dear Macchia family. I knew Daniel from his short time teaching at East Garner Middle School. I know that Daniel loved teaching and gave his 100% everyday. I know all the students he has taught were changed because of him. May God give you peace during this time of grief. Daniel is teaching in heaven and having a wonderful time!

It was my deep professional and personal pleasure to be the academic adviser for Daniel Macchia when he was enrolled in the Master of Education degree program in Special Education at North Carolina State University. He was an extraordinarily intelligent man who relished learning and always elevated any discussion to a high level. He saw the world through a different perspective and had the power to articulate his ideas in a manner that altered everyone else's thinking in every class in which he was enrolled where I was the instructor. Dan possessed a finely tuned, quick, and often outrageous wit and I loved talking to him about a wide variety of topics and subjects. Through these discussions, I came to know how deeply he loved every member of his family and especially, his nephew, Dominic. I consider it an honor to have known Daniel’s mind, heart and spirit. He was a marvelous teacher who took as much pride and joy in his own students as I took in him. I am a better teacher and person because of him. Such beings are irreplaceable in our lives.

Dear: Mr. Macchia
You might remember me I was probably one of your closes students that you worked with ALL THE TIME.You wouldnt believe all the times i cried walking home and in my sleep. During the time I heard that you had past away I was stunned and my heart just dropped because you basically taught me everything I know now. If it wasnt for you I dont belive
I would be were I am today, about to pass to the 8th grade because of all the strategies that you taught me to get by. I LOVE YOU FOR THAT ! We had some really good times together like when you stepped on Mrs.Morgan marker top and you told me that I had to get her another one it was very funny. You were a great man and you still are a great man and everytime that I cried my parents told me that "he is in a better place" and I know that`s true but you will be missed alot. Another funny time we had fun is when you use to get the yard stick ruler and we would play baseball with the balled up piece of paper and when you use to throw the starburst at us when we use to win alot of points. The BEST time we had together was at the end of last year when you were estatic about me getting a 3 and a 4 on the EOG you pulled out the Shawn Taylor poster. I have that very same poster hanging in my room. Everytime that I think about you I look at it and say that he is in a better place. I thought you were the best E.C. teacher in the world (No Offense Mrs.Wright) but you will be missed. I remeber when you use to tell me about all the times you and your friends use to go to the Hurricane games. I also remember when you would show me my grades and what I needed to improve on. Even when you fired me and replaced me with Josh it was all fine I call it good times. Even though you fired me then I loved that you did now because I get to talk about it now and even to you although you`re passed away. You will aways be in my heart and I will always remember my favorite EC teacher Well its time for me to say goodbye now.
Sincerely,
Marquez Robinson

Mr. M was one of the few I could talk hockey with. I appreciate those times outside our classrooms talking about the latest Hurricanes game or recent Red Wings happening. I will remember his kindness and generosity. Your family will be in our prayers.

Mr. M must have been one of the best teachers I've ever met. He wasn't my techer though. He was my friend.I talked to him every afternoon at carpool, and was always late to my car. When he left from school so suddenly earlier this year, I hoped he was alright. I can't imagine, or even pretend to imagine what you, as his family, are feeling, but God bless you. God bless Daniel. And I don't say that lightly.

Phyllis, Danny, Sharon, Dominic and Tom,
The joy and compassion that Daniel shared with the world will continue to grow with every life that he touched.
Phyllis, I know you're fond of good quotes so here is one I found:
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight. Kahlil Gibran.

Dearest Macchia family,
Daniel was a very special person in my life. His humor and his kindness were what made him such a dear friend to me through the years we spent together at the Suffolk Lutheran School, and off and on after that.
Thank you for the gift of him to so many of us who will never forget him or the light and compassion and friendship he gave.
Blessings and love and prayers to all of you and dear Daniel,

There is nothing in life to prepare us for the utter agony of grief, and though its purpose to etch the memory of those we hold dear forever in our hearts and minds we would want to bear it no more. Those who love you can only hope that the prayers and love they have for you can help by sharing the pain. My love and prayers are with you all.

Dan is one of the most kind, generous people I've ever known. He helped me become the adult I am. Taken so suddenly and so soon, he's left an ache in my heart that, though I know it will ease in time, will never go away, and nor should it, for I love him and never ever wish to forget him. He was my brother from a different mother. Bless him, and all of you.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. I will remember Daniel for his spot on sense of humor, as well as his relentless banter with me over which NY hockey team was the best. To the Macchias, you have certainly lost a most kind and generous grandson, son, brother and uncle. Heaven has gained a true Angel.
I wish you fond memories of Daniel. Remember all the good times, for that is what Daniel would want. God Bless you all during this most difficult time. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
