Dan and I got to be email friends this past Spring. We enjoyed sharing things of our lives as we both had similar backgrounds. We always enjoyed writing to each other. I knew he was having problems in his last email and since I lost contact I assumed the worst and confirmed that in my search tonight. I am so sorry for your loss. He and I had plans for me to come visit him and he would show me the sites of Springfield but we never got to do that. He seemed like a wonderful man and we shared many email sessions. I know you will miss him as I will too miss his almost daily arrival of a lengthy email from him.

Dave and family,
I worked with Dan at Ready School. He was always supportive and understanding. He was so proud of his family and their accomplishments. I know he will be missed by many.My sincerest sympathy on your loss.

I learned of Dan's passing from George Smith who checked the Springfield paper obituaries. What a shock. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Dan loved you and his grandchildred greatly. He was so proud of you and spoke of you and the family often when we--his Ball State friends--got together for vacation trips. He was so looking forward to Daniel's wedding.

Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Dan will miss him but will have many fond memories of his kind and generous nature. A true friend.

I will remember Dan always.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I know how special father's are, no matter the age.

We could not attend the service because I had to take Dick to the hospital. He is doing fine, but I was there with him all day.

Dan and Wilma were wonderful friends and neighbors on Chapel Hill Drive in Springfield. It was our gift to have them in our lives for so long. Our thoughts are with you Dan & Sue, Kelly and Dan.

Dan, I was so blessed to have such a dear friend as you. You were one of my dearest friends and I loved you dearly. You always sent some of the best emails and always had something witty to say or something to make me laugh. You always took time to talk to me and I am blessed to have know such a sweet old man as you (you always at me when I called you that).

Mr. McCain, I was lucky enough to have attended Ready Elementary School while you were the principal. You were a wonderful presence and so good with children. We all loved you!

We only met Pops once, for two days at Kelly and Mike's wedding. The impression, fortified with his message during the ceremony and etched in stone with the stories and remembrances offered by Dave since, was indelible. We share your grief and offer our condolences. May the joy and service his life exhibited get you past this time of sorrow as you continue to pay his gifts forward.
