Daniel Mehringer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 13, 2024.
Obituary:

Daniel Boyd Mehringer (Dan), passed away suddenly, at home on 3rd May 2024 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the age of 46.

Dan is survived by his sons, Jake and Logan, their mother Claire, his parents Ron and Janet, and his sister Jill (Mike). He will be much missed.

Dan grew up in a loving home in Mt Lebanon, Pennsylvania, was a keen sportsman, graduated Shreyer Honors College at Penn State University in 2000 and began his career at GE in Connecticut. Dan moved to London, England, in 2005 where he met Claire and they soon became parents to Jake. Married in the Florida Keys in 2013 they added Logan to the family later that year. In 2015 the family moved to the USA, first to New Jersey and then to Wisconsin for Dan's dream job at Harley Davidson.

Dan was an avid bike and motorcycle rider and coached North Shore Mountain Bike team. Outdoor adventure sports, road trips, theme parks, skiing and snowboarding were all passions of his.

A private memorial service will be held to scatter Dan's ashes in the Minooka park trails, Wisconsin, a place that held special significance for him and his boys. This ceremony will be a tribute to the memories they shared in a location close to their hearts. The family would love to hear your stories and memories and see your pictures of your own tributes to Dan.

Dan will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on through love and laughter and his boys, Jake and Logan.

I was fortunate to be partnering with Dan professionally for the past few years. Always found it him to be a fast- and critical-thinker.

We also shared the passion for motorcycling, mountain biking, and skiing - and almost ended up going on a skitrip together with our kids. Being a dad meant the world to Dan.

I miss him... My sincerest condolences to his family and many friends.

Dan was a great friend and fraternity brother at Penn State SAE (class of 2000). In addition to being a true genius, he was a hard working student, great member of the fraternity and such an honest supportive friend. We had so many amazing memories together. This photo pictured is from around 2002 in Surf City NJ.

This terrible news has really been difficult for myself and all of Dan's friends from Penn State. Sending our sincerest sympathies Ron & Janet and the entire Mehringer family.

***Dan - We love you buddy. Phi Alpha. Yours in the Bonds, Zach**

My name is Andres Recoder and I worked closely with Dan at Citigroup both in London (2013-15) and later in NY .
I appointed Dan as the COO of the Global Corporate Sales mandate that I was running at the time. Through this I got to know Dan well both professionally and personally. He became a trusted partner in the business and his enthusiasm, passion, intellect and work ethic were among his many attributes. I was responsible for convincing Dan to relocate with me from London to NY and was glad to see his young family lay roots in NJ. After he left Citi and eventually got his dream job at Harley Davidson we gradually lost touch . I was shocked and saddened to hear about his way too premature passing. My best wishes to his family who must have been devastated by the sudden loss. Dear Dan, hope your journey somehow continues in a different place ! With deep affection Andres Recoder

Dan and I were close friends from junior high through high school. That old saying "when I was your age I walked to school both ways, uphill, and in the snow" was actually what we did. Anyone that knows the south hills of Pittsburgh and specifically Cochran Road can attest to that.

To top it off we walked to and from cross country and track practice. You know, that sport you had to run all over town to be good at? Dan made running seem effortless.

Those walks made us though. We talked about all the things you could expect teenage boys to talk about. Not only that, Dan was a walking dictionary and thesaurus- other kids took SAT prep courses and read the Princeton Review. Dan was my SAT prep on those walks.

We couldn´t wait to drive, to see the world, to buy sports cars and motorcycles. When we finally got our drivers licenses, he loved driving as much as I did. We had to drive our parents mini vans - but we didn´t care-they might as well have been a RX7 or the Lexus SC. (Cool cars back then ok?)

Although I haven´t seen you in a long time, I´ll never forget how much fun we had. You were a great friend, and I´m sure an amazing father. I moved back to where we grew up, and I´ll think of you often, especially when I walk Cochran Road.

I´ll miss you my old friend.

Dan and I were friends in high school and recently reconnected after 27 years. We talked regularly about our childhood memories, dreams, kids, marriages, and relationships. We'd spend hours on the phone laughing about our lessons in life and how we'd do better next time. Dan was so proud of his boys and wanted to give them everything. I'll miss hearing his voice and have no doubt that he's watching over us.

I worked for Dan at Harley-Davidson. He was one of the best and most challenging bosses I have ever had. One of the best because even though he was always moving 100+ mph, he still took the time to coach me and share his business insights/practices along the way. This has been very valuable to me in my post-H-D roles. One of the most challenging because it was hard to keep up with him! I know how much he loved his family and especially his boys, I am sending you all my thoughts and prayers.

Dan and I worked in the same industry. Over the past two years we communicated at least every two weeks discussing possible collaborations. I came to admire and respect him deeply over that time based on his sense of humor, intelligence and integrity. As they do, conversations turned to personal topics and it became apparent immediately the love he had for his children. Being a father meant the world to him which is maybe the greatest compliment I can give. He will be greatly missed.

I had the honor of knowing Dan since early childhood. As far back as I can recall, everyone always loved being around him. Dan was funny, whip smart and just a great guy. Some of my best memories of Dan are during our Friday night high school ski trips. Dan was the first one on the hill and didn't stop until it was time to go home. We kept in touch over the years and met up in New York, London and Colorado. Dan was the kind of friend that you could call, let him know you'd be in town and he was always going to make time for you. Professionally I was always in awe of Dan. He guided me through some career decisions recently and I am so thankful for his insight. I will miss Dan terribly. My sincerest condolences to his family and many friends.

Sharing a photo that brings back fond memories from Door County - sipping on cherry slush drinks while the kiddos all swim in the lake. Grateful to have shared this time together. XOXO

I was fortunate enough to grow up with Dan. He was an exceptionally bright and thoughtful person. I was always impressed by his work ethic and academic excellence. Not surprisingly, he achieved many great things in his professional career. However, I will always remember him for his wit and ability to make you laugh even as he teased you. He was a great athlete, and I have many fond memories of doing all things outdoors together, particularly skiing and mountain biking. His greatest passion, though, was for his two boys, and he would beam lovingly as he spoke of them. I will miss him deeply, but I am very thankful to have known him and will cherish the countless memories we had together.

I worked with Dan at Harley-Davidson. While we worked at a motorcycle company, our conversations regularly found their way to cycling - I loved how his eyes lit up during those conversations - it was clear how much fun he got out of riding anything with two wheels. Another memory was about a 20 minute conversation with him after he pulled an all-nighter driving with his boys to South Carolina. He was understandably a bit delirious from the drive but what stuck with me was how excited he was to spend a few days unplugging with his kids. My thoughts are with everyone who was impacted by Dan's passing -- especially his boys.

I met Dan at Harley-Davidson, and always enjoyed working with him. But we really connected away from the office on two wheels. When we rode motorcycles or mountain bikes together. I will miss him, and our rides and conversations. He loved his family and his kids. My sincerest condolences to all his family and friends. Godspeed Dan.

I worked with Dan at Harley-Davidson and spent a lot of time with him on the various projects. I remember that Dan would sometimes bring his boys into work they would ride around the 4th floor on a Stacyc and eat lots of sugary things from the cafeteria. I am sending my thoughts and prayers to his family.

I was Dan´s recruiter for his role at OppFi. His most recent company he worked for. My favorite memory was taking him through the process. I knew he had the job the moment we connected over the phone. He was so patient, optimistic, and confident. He knew that OppFi needed him in which led him to getting the job and being the #1 candidate out of 10 candidates throughout the entire hiring process.
