Dan O'Dea - It is difficult to comprehend the sudden departure of a friend whose life meant so much to so many. Your dedication to the pursuit of social justice and desire to forge a meaningful relationship between two cultures will not be forgotten. Nor will your emphatic desire to make the world a better place. Despite the sorrow I feel at the news of your passing, the memories of our colourful conversations and many shared experiences on the 'backroads of the Kimberley' will remain with me forever. My deepest sympathy and condolences to the O'Dea family.

Shire President Damian McLean, Councillors, CEO Chris Paget and staff of the Shire of Ngaanyatjarraku mourn the loss of our friend and former colleague, Daniel O'Dea.

Dan was a wonderful character who made a very significant contribution to the Lands and our Shire through his work roles with the Ngaanyatjarra Council and the National Native Title Tribunal. He was a gentleman well known and respected by all the Ngaanyatjarra people and those who worked with him, and we honour his memory and enduring legacy.

Our love, thoughts and prayers are with Tanya, Sam, Dominic and all of his family at this very sad time.

O'Dea (Daniel ): Our much loved son-in-law Dan has passed suddenly from our lives and tragically from his family, Tanya, Sam and Dominic. What a complex man he was, devoting so much time to his boys and home life yet engaging so widely and meaningfully in the affairs of Aboriginal land rights. Reading more extensively than all others, running hours of morning miles and competing in the Rottnest Channel Swims, and many other activities. He will be sadly missed by his wider Perth family and by his grieving Kiwi cousins.
