I never had the opportunity to run with Dan, but we just had a very animated conversation about it a few weeks back. He was so looking forward to running with his son. He was a gift to all who met him.

I am saddened by the loss of someone I did not get to know as well and as much as I would have wanted too. I met Dan at the Windsor transmission plant as a fellow employee and runner/ triathlete. -Dan and I even ran for the Windsor trans . Challenge cup team - he of course always the faster runner. I always marvelled at his both fun loving outlook yet semi-professional attitude towards running and competing. He inspired me tremendously to continue my running and competing. Although I do not run marathons - only halfs- Dan - your spirit will still be there with me - every step of the way - driving me to every finish line finishing in the diginified "Daniel Porter "manner. - head high proud 'I did it again" . Definitely the most "professional amateur" I have ever met. My next race I dedicated to you.
- My deepest condolences to Dans' family. the running world mourns today.

I ran with Dan and his son. He was a great friend that will be missed dearly.
My heart was broken to hear of his loss at something him and I enjoyed more then anything.(Marthons)
Running for me and my dear friend Dan was something we both did to overcome some things in life that didn't comfort us the way running did.
I didn't just know Dan from running I also knew him for years at Gm. He unloaded my truck.
I will miss my dear friend so much and will always think of him as I run.
He also will be in my prayers forever.
With love from your running buddy Paul Haworth & family.

My condolences go out to Char and her family at this difficult time. There is a funny memory I would love to share. Char, remember when we ran out of gas at the busiest corner on the expressway and we thought we were doomed! .. we called your dad and he was there in just minutes with a huge tank of gas waiting to help us out, making jokes the whole time... the best line he said was .. "you just wanted a free tank!" Cherish those memories always. What a great man he was.
