Daniel Powell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 5, 2025.
Daniel Thomas "Dan The Man" Powell, 67, passed away on March 26, 2025, in Polk City, Florida. Born on October 26, 1957, in Jacksonville, Florida, Dan lived a life defined by dedication-to his family, his trade, and his brothers and sisters in the linework community.

A proud Marine Corps veteran, Dan carried the values of service and integrity throughout every chapter of his life. He was a lifelong journeyman lineman known across the country as "Barehand Dan," a nickname earned through his fearless work and unmatched skill. His career was more than a job-it was a calling. As a devoted member of IBEW Local Union 222, Dan served on the board for many years and became affectionately known as the "Lineman Daddy" and mentor to countless apprentices and fellow linemen. His influence stretched far beyond Florida, reaching IBEW brothers across the United States and Puerto Rico who looked up to him for guidance and inspiration.

Dan's love for his family was at the heart of everything he did. He is survived by his beloved wife Donna Powell; his parents Sue Bowling and Harvey and Evie Powell; sister Susan and her husband Brian; brother Gregg; children Ricky, Traci, Charla, and Brett; grandchildren Ayden, Carter, Raelyn, Liberty, and Colleigh in Florida; as well as other grandchildren, nieces, and nephews in Texas. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Powell.

Outside of work and family life, Dan found joy on two wheels as an avid Harley rider. He cherished time spent with loved ones around barbecues and bonfires-moments filled with laughter, stories, and warmth that will be remembered fondly by all who shared them.

Dan was an affectionate, dedicated man who always put others before himself. His memory will remain etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. His legacy-built on kindness, strength, mentorship, and unwavering spirit-will continue to inspire generations to come.

A funeral service honoring Dan's life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Kersey Funeral Home located at 108 Lake Stella Dr., Auburndale, Florida 33823. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at Brew Hounds at 318 Havendale Blvd., Auburndale.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him and may his legacy live on through those he touched.

Dan I will miss you always, you were more than a Dad to me,you were my mentor and taught me my trade as a lineman,I remember telling you I wanted to be able to climb the poles and you pulled the truck over to show me how it was done and then you told me it was my turn and I actually did it and you told me I was a natural. I only wish we had more time so you could see me turn my life around and be proud of me.
